At first I thought it was just me; that I was getting too old to follow music. But, in hindsight, that wasn't the case. Popular music has become **** and boring. Gone were the days when I check Billboard when they first refresh for the week. There just isn't excitement anymore. Tracking songs is just a waste of time because almost all current hits are low quality. It's not an accomplishment to beat out shitty songs. There's no competition. For the life of me, I don't know where the artistry went. Until the musical landscape changes, charts are dead to me. Streaming being that big a contribution to the charts, I swear. I use Spotify so I am a fan of streaming. Now I'm just wondering if the early pretentious art critics were right. The more the charts reflect what the masses listen to, the more 'cheap and artless' the charts will be. Basically, the masses have ugly taste.
