Yeah, she definitely is THAT pop girl from the newer generations. However, Gaga, Adele, Bey, Britney, Katy, Rihanna and Taylor are what I view as main girls and considering that none of them are legacy acts (well, not all of them ), I simply can't put her on my list.

She's been bigger than most of our faves for the past 2 years. Sweetener just proves that she is an immense talent and force in the industry, and she is clearly currently on top. She is bigger than her peers and bigger than some of her contemporaries in terms of success on the charts and in general, and that isn't something that should be taken lightly.

Pop music is complete sh*t right now... that’s the only reason Ariana is doing so well with Pharrell’s album. Barely anyone I go to college with talks about her or listens to her music. The pop stars people talk about are Gaga, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Adele, Beyoncé & Kesha recently & even if she becomes a main pop girl she will never be in my book cause even though she can compete vocally, she can’t compete performance wise or artistically.

If those "main pop star" takes Ariana as a big pop girl maybe it's for a reason 

But I agree that she needs to pass another level for being bigger as a huge pop star

when i imagine a main pop girl i see that:

-impact on music and other people

-broken records

-large album sales

-important awards

-iconic moments

-massive fans amount

-successful tours 

-timeless hits

 

I do not think that Ariana has any of these achievements

Thanks to Dangerous Woman album tbh, those other two that preceded it would never, cos of how boring it is.

DW gave her some edge that people like, hence she is starting to be more relevant as more people liste to her music.

You know that it's impossible for any artist to sell as much in the 90s but she's doing pretty well, same for singles, she's doing more fine than a lot of main girl that you mentioned, all her album sold more than 500k (we will see for sweetener)

Britney don't have a lot of Grammy if I remember well her only one was for toxic, + Ariana had a lot of nomination specially since 2014 (so 4 years) Katy never had any Grammy  (main girl that you mentioned)

Well, she had some scandals and horrible tragedy and she have a good impact on the gay

She's doing good she always been the lead, we will see the next tour if it get bigger but its still better than nicki (that you mentioned before) Even after the attacks people still came at her concert

I'm pretty sure that if you put her hits on the street everybody will sing it, last night my father surprised me he told me that he knows who she is and NTLTC and I don't even put music at my home and I'm European

The thing is that we can't except from a pop girl to have the same success that early 00s pop girls had, streaming and illegal downloading killed the industry and all the ceremonies of awards don't mean anything now since it became all about popularity charts and usually people are disappointed and about iconic moments well I agree that's why I said she need to level up.mp3 her game 

But if we don't let the chance to the new generation of pop girls to raise everytime they try something we would never be satisfied. I think about Miley too for example. Pop music is dead but each time a pop girl do something we put her down, how can we except Pop music to come back and it's already hard enough to escape from Drake haha 😅

That Grammy museum performance is actually one of the few that showcases her vocals but I feel like throughout her career her voice has always been bland and mediocre.

Whereas Katy Perry and Rihanna have really unique voices especially in the studio version of their songs. Sometimes they also deliver really outstanding ballads live.

her achievements which you mentioned are so weak that I am even more convinced that she isn't a main pop girl
