"Gaga never met Joanne"

Alot of people use the "Gaga never met Joanne" argument when critcizing the album.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have no problem with people not liking the album and I myself don't listen to the album alot but there's one thing I think needs to be explained.

I'll start with this... you don't need to meet a person to be affected by his/her story. Sometimes you can have your entire perspective on life change because of a story of a relative that carried on through generations, friend or someone you never even met.

With "Joanne", Gaga put family and friends on the pedestal and that's what I think, regardless of what you think of the album, you should take from it. Try to think about that one story or one person dead or alive that really changed your perspective and made you acknowledge the important things in your life.

Joanne's existence and tragic early death has affected Gaga more than many people will ever be affected by people they have actually met.
Joanne is a beautiful record inspired by something very personal and traumatic to Gaga, and it helped healing her and her family even after all these years.

This. Joanne's death changed that entire family forever, and every children that comes into that family will inevitably be affected by such a major life event. Saying that Gaga never met Joanne is ridiculous and pointless. :madge:

Thats not the problem of the album. You can feel theres a genuine impact and i feel closer to some parts of gaga.

But i also feel like she blocked herself more in this album than in exuberant btw or fame monster

I think people with this criticism act like if Gaga wasn't mentioning Joanne every day before she released an album with her name as the title, then it's not genuine. This ignores the fact that Joanne was in prayers before shows and in The Fame booklet all along. She didn't just show up one day.

Joanne's death was tragic for her entire family, naturally. And if you never losst loved one, you can't understand. And Gaga's birth was like a new ray of light in their family, and Joe named her Joanne. So Gaga feels like her being in the Germanotta family and having been named Joanne, she is like the bringer of joy for her family (Joe specifically). That in itself is enough to make Gaga feel very close to Joanne and very important in her family. So literally to hell with anyone who criticized the choice for Gaga to focus on her family and give an ode to them.

I don't think it even matters on when her realization happened or whether she has shown it to anyone before the album.

She took from Joanne alot and it changed her perspective in life. She even said on Beats One interview: “How can I not say something? How can I possibly make an album about twerking my ass in the club?...It feels empty, it feels irrelevant.”.

That record was her putting values of family & friends to the forefront, in my opinion.

I agree that it doesn't matter artistically, but it can absolutely have an impact on how people perceive the album.

REALITY

It's a stupid argument, to be frank. I mean, do any of us know Gaga personally? I bet not, but has she affected our lives? Obviously, we're on a forum dedicated to her!

Just because she didn't meet her doesn't mean that she wasn't personally affected by it. She's talked about how it's affected her family and her relationship with her family members numerous times. People need to stop acting like they know Gaga personally and start respecting what Joanne meant to her and her family.

Personally i feel her anxiety , concern and fear more than the message she tried to tell.

She had a beautiful idea with this record but seems like she untapped some deep emotions she didnt really let out.

An anlogy:

Theres quiet shy people and outgoing confident

Joanne is that girl that dares to go outside and seems very chill, acts really cool but..is more extrovert than introvert and is kinda boiling inside.
