Why wasn't Britney Spears on Lady Marmalade?

We all know the iconic 2001 cover of Labelle's Lady Marmalade, I hope.

It stars some of the 2000s biggest pop divas. Chistina Aguilera, Lil Kim, P!nk...and Mya. 
It seems that Mya's part would've been perfect for Britney. High and easy.
Does anyone know why they didn't pick her for the part? Britney was huge, and certainly bigger than  Mya.

They already had a pop girl: xtina. It was suppose to be a mix of the top girls from each genre- pop, “rock” (pink), r&b (mya), and rap (lil Kim/missy). Idk too much about the backstory of how they picked them but i think xtina was a good choice

Britney definitely was (and is) bigger than Mya, but Mya had the vocals . Missy produced it, and did a great job making sure the 4 meshed.  I remember thinking the same when it came out too tho,  why not Britney.  Also,  Britney was doing a lot on her own,  killing the game ☺

Exactly, at that time she didn't need such a huge collaboration because she slayed all by herself.
Whereas Mya and Lil Kim had their first big international hit with the song.

Because she can't sing sadly, and that song is supposed to showcase vocals.
