Monster7 5,697
The only artists that keep the level of quality (if not increase) right now are Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Adele, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars in my opinion. I don't care how much they sell or do in the charts as long as they keep serving really good music.

It would have been a lot easier to write another ARTPOP or Red, that's artistic growth, not decline I would hardly call either of those “masterful”...LWYMMD is laughably cringey and many have points out that the key change of PI isn’t totally earned because of the breakneck pace of the song. And those are just some examples. I think Joanne is a solid album, but I’d never say it had masterful songwriting
PUKKIE 457
whether or not its follwing a trend, i will definitely agree.. Pop music is certainly declining .. Fast... We need Gaga to come bk with a purely pop album and be.. god pop music is so dry lately

Key changes also aren't "earned" and you're embarrassing yourself. Just Another Day is on another level for recent Gaga songs songwriting-wise. I was just parroting what others have said, i.e. critics who are evaluating the songwriting and not just how bop-worthy something is. I think Joanne has its moments of great songwriting (like JAD, CTM, SP, for example), but I think as a whole album it is not the best example of her songwriting (maybe second best). What do you mean by Shake it Off not being “Tasteful”? I’m confused (and not defending the song whatsoever, just curious about your word choice). Otherwise, why did u give a whole paragraph describing Kesha's music direction when actually everybody on this site probably has noticed since the beginning I was just using her as an example! There's nothing wrong with listing other certain pop stars... except Madonna, JK! But I get what you mean, I did kind of make it look like the whole thing was about Kesha, but to be honest, a lot of her older music was pretty unique and legendary and was probably just as "poppy" as even ARTPOP let's just say. I didn't try to offend you or other people if I did, I just used Kesha as an example of how older pop music was better :
ItsTommyBitch 12,640
It's really just about perspective, there's not much objectivity you can bring to this subject Like, Sweetener, Joanne, etc. those were albums theh artists wanted to make because they didnt want to be confined by pop and wanted to explore their identity. To me, thats evolution of artistry, not a decline in pop music (esp. since those albums ARE still pop records at the end of the day) But if you don't like those releases, well that sucks Besides, the "best" pop music in my mind being released hasn't been from the "main" pop girls or whatever in half a decade. EMOTION was arguably one of the most influential pop records in the second half of this decade, Charli XCX and artists like her have been kind of underground making very critically acclaimed and very good pop music (that's also unabashedly bubblegum, etc) 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
Flawless 2,234
It's funny how y'all think that pop back them was super original and groundbreaking lol. Yes, we had a lot of amazing songs, albums, visuals but the generic and bland songs always existed. I think the problem is that rap is the popular genre rn in US so eletro/dance/pop is decreasing and automatically pop stars are fitting more in the genre that is popular. It's normal. This industry lives in a cicle. the scars on my mind are on replay.
