ARTPOP: 9, Joanne: 6

With that being looked at, I appreciate the Joanne era more, because even though it felt slower, at least it was cohesive, Gaga seemed happy all through, it gave us the Super Bowl, 5F2 and the JWT (which I almost attended)

Perfect Illusion

Ever since BTW, track no°007 is really high level, I can't choose

Joanne by far.... I'm sorry but I can't listen to ARTPOP in whole.... I finish DWUW and skip straight to Dope... I can listen to Joanne non stop... However, when ARTPOP is good it's ****ing great... To this day Gypsy is in my lady gaga playlist and for a minute  I pretend I'm doing one of her live performances of the song.

diamond heart is a gem but I would say ARTPOP is better (with high highs and few unnecessary filters)

Love it when you call me legs In the morning, buy me eggs

How can you compare an EDM album and a contry/pop album? :saladga:

Exactly, though I do think ARTPOP is an amazing EDM album, it just doesn't have that soul feeling Joanne contains :kara:

there's definitly ambition in creating a folk/country pop album in a culture where hip hop and rap is dominating

In a sense, but its country/folk influences are minimal (it's still a pop record) and that's not really what I'm talking about. She was actually trying to say something with ARTPOP. Joanne is maudlin, suffocatingly traditional. It completely contradicted her entire artistic MO, in a way that felt inauthentic as opposed to impressive or ambitious, like she was doing it to pander to a public that had grown tired of her. It's the least cohesive thing she's ever done, by far. Its sound is all over the place. ARTPOP is loud, abrasive, angry, and more than a little messy, but it felt completely authentic. Joanne doesn't, aside from the title track. It sounds like it was something she felt she had to do, or did because she didn't know what else to do in this musical environment, not because she went into it with a clear purpose and end-game in mind.

Joanne is on the better half of her discography, honestly. It's well-written, well-performed, and well-executed. That said, while I don't entirely agree with all of @OG Gaga Stan's points, they do make a good point in that, despite the hyperbolic authenticity of the album, there was more of a "rawness" in ARTPOP, for the better and for the worse.

I read ARTPOP as a weird combination of raw emotional catharsis and overproduction, and read Joanne as something that was more intentionally (if not exaggeratedly) demure, with more of a "storytelling" element.

Joanne is better, in my opinion, purely in that it has superior writing and musical elements; but, ARTPOP will always have a special place in my heart.

3 points in and ready for more

ARTPOP is my favourite Gaga album, it became my favourite not so long ago.

Joanne is a BEATIFUL album and I loved the era even tho there are a lot of songs I don't listen to off of it

I love ARTPOP so much that Venus alone is better than the whole Joanne.

I like Joanne too, obv.

But spacial, mythological, sex themes and out of this world choruses and instrumentals are in ARTPOP.

Aura. AURA.

G.u.y. too.

Gypsy...

ITS TOO MUCH GOD BLESS ARTPOP
