"Sweetener" MetaCritic score up to 79

Guys Adele's 25 had a 75 score. Selena Gomez's Revival had a 74 score.

Would you guys consider 25 and Revivial on the same level? Obviously Adele has the superior album.

Conclusion: Metacritic means nothing.

Edit: I'm not saying Sweetener is a bad album. I'm saying Metacritic is so inaccurate in reflecting actual albums' reception because you have to read the individual reviews themselves. Joanne had a lower score than many albums but its impact and Grammy nominations indicate that it's more cherished than many albums with high scores.

I like the singles and also everytime and breathing. Other than that... you can find me sleeping and dreaming with the rest of the album :vegas: so I don’t why the score is so high, payola? For charts? Lol

Sweetener haters are missing out.

We aren’t. We heard it and we think it’s not good

Just letting you all know, this album is rated higher than every single one of Gaga’s albums

But the critics hate Gaga, that’s obvious if you see that Selena and Ariana’s albums are scoring higher, I mean to the point that they are at the same score as Adele’s albums just makes you wonder what kind of joke the MetaCritic scores are... :bon::madge:

you guys know that mellow and chill out sounds are a vibe and aesthetics, right?

maybe y'all have some type of album you wanted from her, but in the end it's her project and she can put whatever she wants in it. from the album cover alone you can tell that it's not a typical pop album filled with bops, and turns out that is absolutely fine.

i personally didn't enjoy it on the first listen (mind you i was high af and it's impossible for me to dislike something while high, yet most of the songs weren't my cup of tea) but i can acknowledge her artistry and direction.

Haroon

Listened to it the other day fully and I really liked it, went straight back and listened to it fully again and I’ve done that quite a few times since then too :flutter:

Congratulations to her :applause: It’s a great album and I’m glad to see it being praised and receiving positive feedback. I’ve heard 2 of her albums (this and Dangerous Woman) and it’s my favourite, even though I enjoyed and still enjoy Dangerous Woman a lot :music:

ggd: why.... are pop girls over..... i miss pop.....

ggd when a pop girl succeeds: okay NO

...the album has to be good, sis. :interestinga:

As I've said elsewhere, this score is less reflective of whether the music is any good and more reflective of the potency of the narrative that exists around her right now.

A score of 79 for this album is, frankly, ridiculous.

The album is good, it really is but is not as good as Dangerous Woman. I can't believe people are getting their panties all wet for all these Pharrell disposable beats.

Pink flamingos always fascinated me.

"I don't like the album, therefore anyone that does must be wrong"

What a concept :emma:

Sweetener actually has some good review in my book, like they don't just focus on Manchester (though it is part of the inspiration for the work so its not completely unfair to bring it up) but actually talk about the production, lyrics, vocals, etc. I suggest you read them, they might influence the way you perceive/understand the record. It's a record worth thinking of as not a "failed pop" album, but a step into a different direction for Ariana as an artist and one that - while not always perfect, is cohesive and has some great moments you learn to appreciate

It is just not as good as Dangerous Woman, I only liked 3-4 songs compare to DW which has a lot of bops
