Also their children typically adapt to North American culture just fine even if there's some residual influence from their parents so it's not like immigrants are going to cause some permanent harm with some lineage of messes up thinking that can't be fixed Also they enhance our quality of life because of a higher percentage of immigrants now are what's called "economic immigrants" where it's mostly young immigrants with skills and education we are in shortage of Also given our low birth rates high immigration rates have prevented us from having deteriorating aging demographics to the same severity as much of the rest of the developed world The biggest downside to immigration I think is that its making our housing shortage even worse but even that could improve if the Peovincial governments in Ontario and BC would relax the strict zoning laws that slow down construction. @Woolfsmck @Luc @Born To Slay @PartySick I like hearing your opinions on immigration Personally, I think the issues they're talking are over blown. StarstruckIllusion 53,697
Yikes, he does have a point. I’ve really haven’t seen anything distinctively Canadian in the mainstream for a while-all just American **** + Asian cultures. It’s like every culture is celebrated except ours… and it’s a white peoples culture at it’s core. The problem is white kids today love urban/white American culture, not entirely the immigrants tbh. My white friends would be offended if you said their culture was "white". They're German, Bosnian, Ukranian, French, etc. and enjoy and celebrate their cultures and they're all very different cultures with different languages, customs, history, etc. I find it racist to them to reduce their cultures and identities to just "white". So white + indigenous Mayhe your friends should get thicker skin idk. Also racism is the belief that one race is better than the other, not shading another race. You don’t have to think your race is better than another to throw shade at them-every race and culture has bad things about them.

jylee 66
In social studies classes in primary school, we would talk about how the Canadian identity was a patchwork of diverse backgrounds and how that made us stand out from the culturally stale melting pot that is the US (I’m not even joking tho), so what’s this quebecois going on about 🙄 Yeah, I get some people come from less liberal areas, but then some people born here aren’t ideal Canadians either *coughfordnationcough*. StrawberryBlond 15,685
I'm fine with immigration in theory - our differences do make us strong and there's no denying that immigrants have provided a lot of good things for locals in any country, especially when it comes to taking much-needed placements in the health service. But there is a line to be drawn and that is when anyone is allowed in for any reason and they aren't vetted enough. I believe the top 4 reasons someone should be automatically accepted - having family that originated from the country, marrying a local from the country, accepting a job placement in the country and studying in the country. Any other reason needs to examined more closely. And I say this for anyone, I'm not just talking about non-whites. The fact is that a lot of countries, especially small nations, are suffering with a housing crisis and there is a shortage of jobs and school placements and a huge waiting list for crucial medical operations (and even merely appointments). Just the other day, I was seeing a report on the news about how there are record numbers of the homelessness in the UK and the government's trying to figure out ways to deal with it. This is the same government who's letting anybody into the country. You can't have it both ways. Countries are rapidly filling up and space is dwindling. The pressure put on infrastructure is massive. You can't just keep artificially increasing the population year on year and expect there to still be enough resources to go around. And this isn't even tackling the opposing views that some of these immigrants are coming in with. It's mind-blowing what Dark Age beliefs some cultures are still operating under, which they have no intention of dropping if they move elsewhere. The reason why there's been so much terrorism in the UK is because immigrants are not vetted well enough, they're not monitored and ones on the known terrorist list aren't even being deported! This is a scary time and it's making me really despair for my fellow liberals who can't see sense and want to end this madness. I was just thinking today that we hadn't had a terrorist attack for a while (we used to get two a month last year) and thinking we were long overdue one. What a sobering thought. Oh, and minutes later, it hit the news that a man had crashed a car into the Westminster estate. I remember a time when this stuff didn't happen and I felt safe in my country. And as for culture, well, why is it seen as nothing bad if white culture dies out? What's with the double standard? Every nation deserves a cultural identity and the right to keep it. And contrary to popular belief, "white culture" does not consist of colonialism and oppression in this day and age. On 8/13/2018 at 11:04 PM, PunkTheFunk said: Which is what? White people living on stolen land? I really hate this kind of response. It shows a complete lack of respect to whites and their current culture and holds them to a standard that other races are not. Every race on the planet is living on stolen land. Every country was founded on war, bloodshed, separation. There is not a race in history who never committed war crimes, killed people, took over areas for themselves. Why is it whites get all the hate for this in the current day when everyone's ancestors did it? On 8/13/2018 at 11:19 PM, YaaaasGaga said: Nationalism and a culture based on fear of losing what one is used to knowing culturally and it changing is one of the most dangerous and absurd ways of thinking. This is the exact kind of thinking that led to the decision of Brexit in my country and the internal silent civil war between progressives and traditionalists who are afraid of cultures changing and adapting due to external influences that aren't, in their view, extrinsically 'Canadian' or 'British' or whatever. It's as though these places haven't been invaded by and influenced by people of different ethnic origins for the whole time of their existence on this planet and these people think the culture they know now was exactly the same 100, 200, 500 years ago etc. EDIT: Side note, these people who also want to 'preserve culture' like to preach about all immigrants and people of different ethnic origins being intolerant to certain people and ways of life when, in reality, it is white, western people who are the most intolerant in the majority of cases. Other countries in the world have the same thinking, though. That's why immigration is massively restricted in Asian countries and is actually impossible in some. I have frequently heard Japanese citizens claim that they don't want immigration as it will kill off their culture. I never see liberals picking on them for having these beliefs. Thinking that the west is the only places that are intolerant to immigrants is so shortsighted. For the record, I was a Remain voter, but even I think lack of immigration restrictions is a big problem nevertheless. Most people do not think their country has been the same since year dot. All they want is for the culture that we have in the here and now to remain intact. This is what literally every country wants...but it's only bad when majority white nations want it. Really? White people are the most intolerant? Our culture operates in such a way that anyone deemed intolerant is shunned and tolerance is actively promoted to us. This is not the case in non-Western nations. I find it so ironic that Westerners complain about their own culture, which is the most freedom-supporting culture in the world. Try speaking your mind elsewhere and see how far you get. 8 hours ago, Economy said: First of All Canada has long been a land of immigrants. Very little originated from here. I find this such a sad way of thinking. Non-Westerns love their culture, think it's a beautiful thing, even if it wasn't all natively originated from there. But Westerners, in particular, whites, are taught to feel like they have no cultural identity and that it's everyone else who's interesting. I highly advise you to research your country's history, traditions and so on, because you'll find so much amazing stuff you didn't know about. I know I have. Maybe in Canada, things are a little bit better, but in the UK, there's much bigger divisions in immigrant circles. They set up their own neighbourhoods, sometimes even moving entire families over and some areas have become no-go zones that even the police won't show up in. Liberals will tell you this stuff doesn't exist but speaking to those who are in this situation, it is very real. There is a big problem with radicalisation in our local mosques and a lot slip through the cracks when it comes to monitoring. For those who do adapt, there seems even more who don't - don't learn the language, don't want to speak to locals, etc. And instead of solving the low birth rate problem by bringing in migrants, why don't we just do what other countries do? Encourage the locals to reproduce and give them perks like longer maternity leave, etc. Whites are the only race that I see being actively encouraged not to have children, there's umpteen women who want to be childless and that's why our population is in such decline. Every other race sees having children as their civic duty to society or something that's just a part of their culture. Perhaps a bit of self-reflection is needed on this one. Sorry about those tags at the bottom, couldn't remove them. 1 hour ago, xKorix said: Wtf is "White People" culture? That tactic sounds like a conservative dog whistle. While saying "(insert race here) culture" isn't technically correct, no one seems to bat an eye when "black culture" or "Asian culture" is uttered, so what's the problem? I'm certainly not offended if anyone said my culture was white - my race is not an insult. Yes, every white person originates from Europe and thus, has the culture of their particular ancestors, but culture is about so much more than just the language you speak, food you eat, music you listen to, etc. It's also about your beliefs and outlook on life. White culture as a whole has been about freedom and fairness for decades. That's why so many want to come to white nations - because you can be whatever you want to be in these nations and can live life however you want. Suffice to say that non-white cultures aren't always so kind to its women, children and LGBT communities, so naturally, those from these groups want into white nations where these groups are shown a much greater deal of respect and opportunities. This isn't racism, it's just a fact. "White culture" can be a conservative dog whistle if you want it to be, but not all the time. I'm a liberal and I use the term. 1 hour ago, OBEY said: To be honest when someone asks me about Canadian culture... it's like, what do I even know about it? It seems like I don't know much about it. We're supposed to focus on the negative stuff we've done in the past or the choices our politicians make whereas any other country doesn't feel this guilt. I think it's a very counterproductive thing. I have done research on my country in the last few years and was amazed at the stuff I discovered that I never knew and wasn't taught in school. Every nation has a culture they should be proud of and whites should be allowed this as much as anyone without being called a racist Nazi for it. The biggest difference I saw is that the parts of the US I was in most houses had siding whereas in Canada most houses have brick (at least in the Toronto area) I know some parts of Canada have a lot of siding too tho and many areas in US have bricks so it must just be a regional thing
