Her right thumb is clearly visible in the album cover, but the tip of her right thumb is hidden by hair in the actual sculpture.ย  I think Jeff just took a pic of Gaga (the one in the actual cover) and designed the sculpture from the pic.

It looks weird because of lighting and filters to make it blend better. Bear in mind that the ArtRAVE had industrial warehouse lighting and nothing looks good in that. So they took the life-sized version of the statue, snapped a photo in a heavily light-controlled studio (as one does) and then subsequently edited and put filters over it. If you look at the hands in particular they do *not* look real lolol

they just colored itย

the statue from the artRave looks different because the lighting is drastically different

Have you seen a picture of the sculpture? you must of because it's in your post. Take another look at it and ask yourself the question again.

Iโ€™m more curious to know why there is a star on the coverย

Whatโ€™s in a reverse-warholian expedition?

Actually, the cover ISN'T a photo of her. In Elle's October 2013 issue she revealed that the cover featured a statue made by Jeff Koons

Theyโ€™ve hung out at Koonsโ€™ farm in Pennsylvania and in his Manhattan studio, where, she says, โ€œheโ€™s making a sculpture of me, and itโ€™s going to be my album cover.โ€

As mentioned, by the images in the ARTPOP booklet you can tell it's not her since she looks very different from the final image. He probably took pictures of her in the same pose to use as a reference for the actual statue.

ย

It's easy to recognize it's not a real person, just take a look a the eyes by zooming the album cover.

They probably colored it with a computer program to make her look more realistic.

I know she did say that, but I do insist that the cover IS an edited photo of her. It has been discussed at great length back in the days: if you zoom into the gazing ball, you can see that the reflected hair remained unedited and is real. They never took any picture of that statue, nor did she lie in that interview: she never said the pictureย would be of the exact sculpture they were physically making.

But you can see the statue reflection on the glazing ball and her body looking blue-ish next to it (Except for the legs, which look completely off). I've noticed differences in the hair too, the image on the cover looks overall more realistic than the statue, but the hands and the face are definitely from the sculpture. I agree that they could have HIGLY edited it.

Look, the thing is we'll never know for sure. But the difference in overall look and finish, the booklet photoshoot along with the detail of the hair reflected in the ballย and the obviously highย edited nature of the "statue" on the cover have led people to the conclusions I have exposed to you. Now feel free to have other theories.

I might add that Jeff Koons' gazing ball series all feature white plasterย statues, which confirm that the album cover is not an actual Koons statue but rather an edited photo of Gaga (something that is painfully obvious to any amateur graphic designer if you zoom on the HQ version of the album cover). But the cover is still to be considered a Koons work, as photography and collages are part of his artistry.

The Gaga statue is white too, what I'm saying is they might have used both the sculpture and a photo of her. It has some features that seem too realistic for a statue and vice versa. They could have edited the statue to mimic a real person or the other way around, we'll never know, I just wanted to quote what she said when interviewed and what she wrote on Twitter being those the few sources we have.

Right, that's my point: the artRAVE statue is a typical Koons statue, but the album cover is not. And it's impossible to get as much details from a statue.

But anyway, yeah we'll never really know how they made it, but Gaga is still portrayed as a statue on the cover, be it an actual statue or not, so her interview isn't contradictory imo.
