Was Marry The Night A Better Lead Single?

??? The album is titled BTW and the song is the peak of what this album is about

MTN is nowhere near as iconic

I can’t believe you’re belittling BTW for being too divisive. Who cares about her losing the respect of some conservative bigots and chart success? What matters is if she serves artistry and good messages, which she did

Same for Judas tbh, it’s Lady ****ing Gaga, you shouldn’t say she made a bad decision because she released something controversial

I still don’t understand how people think Marry the Night is single quality. It’s one of the best songs on the album, but it wasn’t made for radio.

omg thought i was the only one who thinks the same, but we wouldn't have one of her best mv ever tho

... and now i just sit in silence.

Miracle

Singles should have been:

Born This Way - The Edge of Glory - Scheisse - You And I - Marry The Night

Marry The Night is extremely great and the gays would have ATE IT UP as the first single but BTW is on par with I Will Survive and I'm Coming Out as a gay anthem and was extremely brave (use of the word transgender in a lead single of the biggest artist in 2011? Shooketh) and as a second single it would've been looked over / not made the same impact.

You and I reached top 10 on itunes upon release ... Def should have been the second single.

Born This Way - Number 1

You and I - Probably number 1

The Edge of Glory - definitely number 1

Fashion of His Love - cute smash

then maybe Scheiße or Heavy Metal Lover or Marry The Night for fun fan service

I don't get how you all think an era that began with #1 single could have been improved. MTN was fine as #5 as the era kinda faded. If anything Judas should've never have been a single and TEOG should've been single #2, but everyone knows that.

Judas is a fan favorite mv, so if it wasn't a single, then no video. And I think the choreo would've been different and its one of her best choreos.

Btw needed to be the single due to the message. It would not have worked as anything other than lead. MTN was too melancholic and the sound too tinny to be given pride of place. I get amped as hell listening to it after a breakup but it's just not "that" song.

Judas is what killed the era. It took the 2nd single slot that belonged to TEOG. Even worse is we got "promo singles" quit that shít.

In an ideal world:

1. Born This Way

2. The Edge of Glory

3. Marry The Night

4. Yoü & I

5. Scheiße

Obviously the final single will flop no matter what but it might as well be a fan fave to give us the video we want. And launch the perfume.

Judas is a fan favorite and a fan favorite of a music video. WYM, I do think TEOG should've been the 2nd single, but Judas did well for being a controversial single, did better than You and I....

It should’ve never been a single. BTW, TEOG and You & I were the only single worthy songs on the album.

Yes and no.

Born This Way wouldn’t have been as big if it wasn’t the lead. The message needed that exposure. And now it’s a huge gay pride hit.

TEOG could’ve been as big as PF and BR had it not had a messy release and bad video.

1. Born This Way

2. The Edge of Glory

3. Marry The Night

4. Scheiße

5. Yoü & I

Judas should’ve been a promo and MTN should’ve been released with the album. And Scheiße could’ve been a huge dance hit, it was one of the most bought album tracks when the album came out. They could’ve done a radio edit without the intro.

This is perfect :diane:

Do you wanna say that it would've done better than BTW and become a bigger hit?

I don't think so.

BTW came just when it was supposed to, continuing what started with the meat dress and was an empowerment anthem, which were very trendy in that time.

Main mistake was releasing Judas near Easter which made her look as if she was trying to be controversial on purpose. She should've released Scheiße instead as a feminist anthem and then Judas as last single, be it 6th or 7th, whichever.

I’m of the mind that BTW is the most Gaga single in the sense that it’s a big, bold statement. I like MTN more as a lead and Gaga wasn’t obviously more passionate about it, but I think having BTW as the lead works because of how definitive a stance it is. Were it another single in the list the impact would be weaker. Making it her lead says that she’s DEDICATED.

No I LOVE Judas and its music video but it ruined the BTW era.
