I think the Madonna situation was blown out of proportion

I don't think she was trying to "harm gaga" directly indeed she was just trying to get buzz but if you make buzz out of presenting a singer as a copycat several times in medias you're harming her image therefore her career and finally the person herself lol so she did.

Gaga was at her peak and Madonna wanted a bit of spotlight for herself, so she went for it. Its totally normal to feel this way, since a younger girl was getting the attention now.

Sadly Madonna fell into the media trap of saying too much   But I think it’s coz she got sick of being asked about the Gaga comparisons over and over and over again  so she gave a little bit of tea  just to shut them up and leave her alone a bit  I blame the media for turning pop music - only female mind you - into a soap opera

Madonna used the feud for self-promotion... She has always used controversy... The problem with her is that she should have been generous with Gaga, a massive fan of hers, a talented girl, the only one who became as massive as her for a new generation. I LOVE Madonna as an arist, but let's be honest. She had the worst attitude and literally used Gaga (who was the biggest star on the planet back then) to create buzz about her album (MDNA) which was flopping terribly. It was not the media's fault. She knew very well what she was doing and we should know better about the kind of person she is.

Honestly I think the media likes to pit woman against eachother true, that being said, I think when Madonna saw a chance to use a Gaga backlash to her advantage she did. She was promoting MDNA, she was insecure about its potential success and threw Gaga under the bus knowing everyone was looking to her for the final word and knowing that it would be super buzzworthy and continued to run with it for her tour. I do not think she cares for or respects Gaga much and I think as she always does, she manipulated the media to run in her favor. On the flipside though, I think at certain points in Gagas peak with The Fame Monster I think she purposely tried to emulate Madonna in certain aspects and part of it was a sort of f*ck off attitude im going to do what I want which ultimately came back to bite her. I think overall though Gaga handled the situation with a lot more grace.

She said born this way was a nice "rework of her song express yourself", called the track "reductive" on TV adding she thought "it sounded very similar" when she heard it, joke about she "helped gaga co-writing born this way", made a mash up of both songs on her tour to relaunch the similarities accusations...

She also was on stage saying "lady who?" and even added she's not me ( an old song of her about a girl copying her and trying to be her but not being able to do so ) at the end end of her mashup to make it clear that she wasn't just shading born this way but gaga as well.

Years after she was still saying to the press that she was "blatantly ripped off" while discussing this moment.

So that's like a loooonng list of shades on a long time period. I mean if its not stirring the pot I don't know what is lmao!

I honestly think Madonna was just having a bit of fun with it, she knows her fans love that sort of thing. But unfortunately I think it (understandably) affected Gaga quite deeply.

The fact she brought up Madonna multiple times in 5F2 shows it is something that is always at the back of her mind. I can't imagine how crushing it must have felt to be mocked by someone you've looked up to your whole life.
