Gaga did VERY much care about the charts actually and the under performance of ARTPOP did effect her and it was pretty obvious to see. However I do think she doesn't care anymore. I think the Cheek To Cheek era helped heal her and shift her perception of what "real success" means.

Good point. Although, she did say in interview as early as 200 and 2009 that she didn't care that much. I personally think what effected her the most was the hate that she received during the ARTPOP era. Although like you said success probably did play a big part.

Yeah, she really liked those #1s and the acclaim, just exactly like Katy. That's why I don't get how people treat Katy for her success cravings when we stan someone that got super sad because her projects were underperforming :selena: BUT like you said, that made Gaga learn about what matters the most: Talent and I hope Katy learns too, because it really hit her almost the same as Gaga's downfall back then. She has American Idol to balance the negativity at least.

tryna go ask Alice, tryna catch that rabbit

REALITY

It wasn't so much ARTPOP in my opinion, but David Bowie's death. Bowie was her icon, and I feel like a lot of the time that's forgotten. He was to her as Lady Gaga is to us. He was one of the biggest reasons she started becoming interested in art, fashion, and music. She's even said herself that her career is like one giant David Bowie tribute.

ARTPOP was detrimental to her (we can see evidence of that in 5F2), but I don't think that that's the reason she's "afraid of releasing hit songs." After Bowie died (and the night at the Oscars where she performed Til It Happens To You), she wanted to release something more personal and meaningful. That's not to say her pop songs weren't meaningful or to say that whatever was on the original LG5 wasn't meaningful either, but after those experiences, it makes sense to why she would release something so personal and stripped back.

Plus, I think from a PR standpoint, she wanted to reinvent and rebrand herself. Jazz was obviously a passion of hers, but it was also a smart business move to get the older audiences interested in her—as well as showing the general public that she can sing. With all these producers for LG6, I'm totally convinced she's going back to the "Gaga we're used to," at least in terms of the electronic/dance music, so I don't think there's any need to worry.

Traumatized? No I don't think so, but she definitely learned something with ARTPOP. She learned not to care about charts and media, and the most obvious one: she learned NOT to tease or promise stuff for her fans anymore, since it created a pressure for her and her fans (aka why many fans were disappointed with ARTPOP because she teased the hell out of it..).

How is SOPHIE's involvement cancelled? Aren't you a bit overdramatic boo?

I've said it a lot of time on this site, and I'll say it again: there's a thing called "creative process".

Head Empty

One part of Five Foot Two always raises this question with me. It's the part where she talks about wanting and trying to "elevate" everything, but she literally says "I can't elevate it to the point where I become Lady Gaga again".

I still don't fully understand what she means by this. But I think it relates to what the OP says: that Gaga does not want to go back to that same (mental) place where she was in 2009-2011. Whether that directly correlates to chart succes, I'm not sure.

I think she definitely is afraid of putting out complex concepts that may be misunderstood so she played it safe with Joanne, but maybe she changed her mind with LG6

Hell yes. Otherwise she would release the Second Act. :rip:

Judas is coming, let the cultural baptism begin.

No. :rip:

I think this fanbase tends to project their own feelings on to her.
