@Fable The Britney/Xtina collab was nice and I think appropriate... but at the time, it also did come across as tryna be cool.  I agree with you on Elton - it's really not fair.

I do wish Madonna wouldn't resort to such silly tactics though.  At Tidal launch signing.  Everyone else on stage just went up to the table and signed like a normal person.  But Madonna?  Ohhh no.

Because she hasn't done anything interesting in years. The last memorable performance I can remember of Madonna is her Super Bowl show, but still it wasn't as memorable as her performances in the 80's and the 90's.

Everything she's done since COADF is terrible. 

She used to be a trendsetter, now she follows trends.

She is not ageing gracefully and still acts like a 20 year-old.

Age - newer audiences find out her age and don't wanna give her music a chance.

Music quality - Everything since COADF has been a miss. Yes there's some cute bops on Hard Candy, MDNA, and Rebel Heart but the music doesn't compare to her previous eras. 

Image - she can be "sexy" or do whatever she wants, but that gives her negative attention which makes people forget her previous impact and achievements.

Because she's at the stage in her career without radio support and also the time period we live in. If she wants to have a huge hit, she'd have to have a "Believe" on this record and defy all odds with it catching on with the GP. Radio has come out and said they won't support her and outside of the first few singles, her focus has always been to get her money via touring and other business ventures. She could shell out millions for videos but I'm guessing without MTV and other video stations, it isn't long before people move onto something else in this day and age.

People claiming her attitude. Well considering the period she was from and how she had to claw through so many males and bull (especially with all the horror stories of Me Too) of course she's going to have a hard exterior but there's been multiple moments she's shown her true colors. She's gone to hospitals for sick fans without broadcasting it, donated to several charities and stood up for people without a voice when it wasn't popular and she's loaned most of her time this last decade to helping an impoverished country have so many resources. Unfortunately, a stale feud between Gaga is what keeps people from moving on. Mariah is someone with a shady attitude but it doesn't stop me from listening to her work or enjoying what she's put over the years. If only some followed this way of thinking.

Yes, the same woman who people screenshot is more respected than Madonna. Because people's respect for Madonna is THAT low.

Everything I've said has already been said. Her new music is terrible, she tries too hard to be cool and sexy when she can't pull it off anymore and her attitude stinks. Plus, she's lost her original fanbase back in the day. Little girls, teens and women in their 20's wanted to be Madonna back in the 80's but they certainly didn't hang around when she got older. Now she's left with a fanbase of mostly gay men, and even then, it's mostly just younger ones. Her fanbase has gone right down because of how she's changed and not for the better. Her music just doesn't speak to women anymore and certainly not the ones who were her age/younger when she started out.

And to those saying it's all ageism - Tina Turner, Cher, Dolly Parton and Aretha Franklin are older than Madonna and they get respect. Because they know how to put forward talent and be mature in older age. Madonna's never truly mastered the art of that (ironically, she did it in 1998 but never held onto it) and that's why she's losing credibility in advanced age. If she released a truly mature album, she might win something back.

I've seen this criticism of Madonna hundreds of times, I've never seen this criticism over Elton John tbh.

There's huge differences here - Elton has grown old gracefully and is acting mature, singing good songs and the people he's singing with are also acting mature. Even Miley, Gaga and Xtina, who are known for dressing raunchy, sexy songs and acting wild, have dressed classy and are displaying nothing but vocal talent. Madonna, on the other hand, is releasing trashy generic music, acting trashy, not showing too much vocal talent and generally being a mess onstage. She's not acting like a woman approaching 60. That's not a good look.

Seriously tho, maybe she’ll spark some interest again when she finally goes back to releasing great music? Her last album alienated even some of her most hardcore fans, and they’re the ones her longevity relies on the most.

Cher acts mature for her age, meanwhile Madonna on the other hand doesn't. Madonna knows she hasn't been popular for a while, hence features with Justin Timberlake, Nicki, and Chance the Rapper.
