MaryJaneHolland 77,348
Are you expecting a 60 years old woman to be getting hit after hit? Her albums and tours still sell well.
Harlet 928
All her albums were great until Rebel Heart. Rebel Heart ruined everything tbh. Like there’s some bops like “Living For Love” “Holy Water” “Iconic” but that’s it. I hope on the next album she delivers. She’s trying way to hard to sound current and it’s like no sis stahhhp. She just needs to stay with her kind of sound that lived up until Rebel Heart.
Cssomeone 1,646
As for me, it's a mixture of everything people have already stated: - Her obnoxious attitude. You are f***ing Madonna, either you die tomorrow or in forty years' time, you are already a legend. You don't have to be edgy or unapologetic just to try to show your relevance. - Her music. I think it was Elton John who said something like, "Madonna could easily write an album as good as 'Ray of Light', but she'd rather release generic music to compete with the younger pop singers". Just the fact that she works with people who are topping the charts only to try to connect to a younger generation is pitiful.

EdX 2,862
I think that she is now in that period between being a pop superstar and being an icon (although she is already). idk if I can put into words what I'm thinking lol like the rumours alone, that she is going to be one of next year's Glastonbury headliners... she is finally going to actually step into that rockstar/legend/icon who is respected by everyone phase I think. her touring numbers are also very good for a career THAT long. however, I can only imagine how incredible the touring numbers would be if she did a true "greatest hits"/career anniversary tour... a bunch of people are just not that interested in her recent tours because of the newer musical material she's been putting out. also her new music is actually quite good - ok, for me MDNA was very "meh" more or less... but after that she popped back with Rebel Heart, which imo is truly a great record. yes, there are some fun tracks on it but both the production and the lyrics(on most of the songs) slay. no wonder, why RH was also critically more acclaimed. so I think, she is actually slowly climbing into the actual "throne" (aka U2, The Rolling Stones + all the other huge rock groups, Elton John etc) i hope y'all get what i mean lmao
lovespent 115
1. Because of ageism. 2. Because people expect another ROL or COAD with every next album and those expectations haven’t been met.
dlioncourt91 765
The comments here. Cher is more respected and acts her age? The same woman whom people screenshot and applaud the shade she throws screaming "Yass queen" every single time. I'm sorry but okay. Because she's at the stage in her career without radio support and also the time period we live in. If she wants to have a huge hit, she'd have to have a "Believe" on this record and defy all odds with it catching on with the GP. Radio has come out and said they won't support her and outside of the first few singles, her focus has always been to get her money via touring and other business ventures. She could shell out millions for videos but I'm guessing without MTV and other video stations, it isn't long before people move onto something else in this day and age. People claiming her attitude. Well considering the period she was from and how she had to claw through so many males and bull (especially with all the horror stories of Me Too) of course she's going to have a hard exterior but there's been multiple moments she's shown her true colors. She's gone to hospitals for sick fans without broadcasting it, donated to several charities and stood up for people without a voice when it wasn't popular and she's loaned most of her time this last decade to helping an impoverished country have so many resources. Unfortunately, a stale feud between Gaga is what keeps people from moving on. Mariah is someone with a shady attitude but it doesn't stop me from listening to her work or enjoying what she's put over the years. If only some followed this way of thinking. When male legends do this it's cool, and they are seen as endorsing the younger generation. Elton performs with younger artists all the time: I've seen this criticism of Madonna hundreds of times, I've never seen this criticism over Elton John tbh. Because Elton John isn’t on stage with his shirt off trying to be Justin Bieber.
Arturo 40,746
She ruined her reputation. Imagine if she just ended her career at Ray of Light? Or even COADF I guess. As ageist as it is the public just views her as a wild grandma. The comment during her SB were not cute. I would have been embarrassed if Gaga’s show was so terribly received by the public. Anyways, the SB is the last memory the entire GP has of her. They dont check for her so they have no clue about Rebel Heart
HEARTSTOP 3,137
All the people saying it's ageism and misogyny are a bit out of touch. And these claims make actual victims of these problems feel less validated. She isn't as popular now because there's only so much diva atittude people can take in as comedic, before getting tired of the whole act. Besides, it makes her seem like either a fake person, or a real but self-entitled mean one. It doesn't matter how much success you have, you can't use that as an excuse to be rude to people. And Madonna is well-known for not caring if she's hurting someone with her words. Her music, and her militancy for women and LGBT people, were much more thought out in the older days, and way better executed at that. In recent years, it seems like she's trying to portray this rebel teenager vibe just for cheap shock value, and that's a very ephemerous thing. If there's someone responsible for her decline, it's herself (although I don't think she will ever be irrelevant). IDGAF
Stephen 30,423
Idk but she will 1000% be regarded as a legend, pioneer and visionary after she’s gone. It’s sad how we can’t appreciate our icons while they’re still here.
Mr S 8,672
I love MJ and Whitney far more, but I do think dying and helped their legacy. Both were ridiculed in the years prior to their death. Madonna has made some questionable choices as well, but all would be forgotten once she passes. Ditto for Mariah.
Smother Em Eh 7,131
He age and “Bitch I’m Madonna” sure didn’t help. It made her seem so try hard and also made her seem like she was trying to fit into the crowd. Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!
Lextyr97 19,958
I like Madonna I just think Rebel Heart was super stale and she just hasn't been around since then since she hasn't released anything. Plus her fanbase is older, and honestly, I think her music is starting to sound dated quite a bit... I couldn't even listen to American Life the other day, and I used to be in love with it two years ago. Maybe it's just me
