Like, title^

I was just reading the comments on sean penns video praising Gagz and Brady.

The critcs towards Gaga are too harsh.

The majority of gp really cant stand her and the rest just wants to bully her. Also it seems she bugs mostly males.

Shell always be showy, fake, lunatic, excentric, hyped.

Its really hard for me, tbh it costed a lot to see her fall in ARTPOP. It seems like shes respect now but the people that know her recent work are the ones with similar taste or following her. More or less losely

When gp really takes notice the scrutinity will be enormous.

But why do we care about what the GP has to say? Isn't the whole point of Gaga's brand to be different among everyone? And straight men have always been too harsh on female popstars.

You know this is just my opinion, right?

I mean, Lady Gaga is a pop artist - she is inherently mainstream, though consciously so.

Her music may push boundaries and challenge the definition of pop, but she is an artist for the mainstream... I believe that she would describe herself as such, too.

Now, that doesn't mean her music conforms to mainstream trends - but it does mean that her intention is to present a mainstream audience with something different.

Despite the decline of the pop-star overall, I would still say that the vast majority of pop artists are mainstream. Except perhaps the periphery artists, like Lana for example, who are not quite at that universal level yet.

Tbh I still have the opinion that she was most hated on in the born this way era. The massive dislike bar on the MV and the top comments when it first came out were mostly negative, I remember it like it was yesterday. Also keep in mind though that commenters are a vocal minority.

Those comments are from trolls. Not representative of the GP, all huge stars get this.

And she's never not been "Mainstream". She's one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.

Also, she more respected now than anytime ever in her career.

Don't worry sis it's not going to happen again.

But even if by some miracle she became a huge mainstream sensation again it doesn;t matter if she gets haters. She'll get them whether she is irrelevant, semi relevant or super relevant and mainstream. Haters will always be there. I know it intensifies when you are huge but it is what it is.

I do want her to be mainstream and successful.

Because, leaving aside those "harsh comments", if she is mainstream and continues with her sucess she, theorically , should be able to work with top notch producers, video directors, fashion designers and thus, she would execute her vision without any constraints.

Any artist of every kind is exposed to criticism, not only "mainstream" ones. Even the niche artists are exposed to harsh criticism from their die hard fans eveytime they drop something new or experiment with new sounds. Bands like Arcade Fire, that are not mainstream and praised by the critics often receive a lot of criticism from their fans.

If she didn't get any criticism, from any kind, she wouldn't really be a real artist.

Gaga has never left the mainstream. If she wanted to she would leave her lame ass record label that wants to control artists

"She looks like a man" ugh we really shouldn't care about comments of people who are stuck in the past. I've seen only praise for ASIB and a few hater trolls on Internet shouldn't be a big matter to us

2018's Sexiest Man Alive.:vegas:

Honestly, people will drag Gaga for anything, ARTPOP was too wild, while Joanne wasn't "Gaga" enough. ASIB seems to be critically acclaimed so far, and hopefully she'll become a great actress, while a still successful music career.

Honestly I feel now she can return to mainstream music far easier than before without being trashed as much as before. All her projects from 2014 and 2017 helped her to cement a good reputation. She's in a safer place now and she has nothing to prove anymore.

And she already hit the rock bottom so I don't think she'll be targetted as much as in 2011 / 2013...

She is still mainstream and she will never be underground. Being mainstream is part of the whole "Gaga" concept since Just Dance days and she's one of the biggest icons of this generation. All twitter stans may call her a flop but she's still getting #1 records, sold out stadium shows, a big movie coming, SuperBowl etc

REALITY

I don't necessarily understand why people are saying, "She's never not been mainstream," or "She's one of the biggest pop stars today," because the truth is that she isn't. Now, don't get me wrong, she is still incredibly popular, but she isn't mainstream. Ariana is mainstream, Justin Bieber is mainstream, Selena Gomez is mainstream, Rihanna, Bruno, etc. etc. Those people are today's mainstream artists. Now, while everyone knows who Lady Gaga is (clearly), she's not as popular or relevant as she once was, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the way things are.

To address the OP though, artists (no matter if they're underground or the most popular ones in the world) will always receive criticism, a lot of the times unnecessary ones too. It's just part of the job. Some of it is legitimate but most of it is unwarranted and honestly just comes from people who don't have anything better to do in their lives besides bringing other people down. Now, it's incredibly difficult and often times it can be devastating to the artist and their fans, but it's an inherent part of being in the spotlight.
