2018 MTV VMAs Nominations

These nominations are horrendous. I know hip hop's big but it's dominating basically everything except the genre specific awards! I'm actually shocked at some snubs. The cut-off period must have just been last month is Apes**t was eligible. That being the case, where are noms for Cardi's Be Careful and I Like It? They came out in May and did well. Not even in best hip hop? I mean, I Like It was a #1 hit! Looks like they were scrambling to give Justin Timberlake some form of nomination too because the ones he did get were bizarre. Best art direction for Say Something? It's just a camera panning back on two people walking in a big building! Filthy for best choreo? It's a robot dancing, not a human! And the blandness of the choices for best Latin video are second to none. It's a sad day when Chantaje is the only truly decent one out of the bunch (and that came out in late 2016! How on earth is this eligible for summer 2018?!). And how much did J Lo pay for any acknowledgement of the floppy Dinero? But that's nothing compared to the vomit-enducing praise heaped on Apes**t. That has to be one of the most pretentious music videos I've ever seen and Bey and Jay barely move in it. So how on earth did it get a best choreography nom? Plus, it only just got released. Usually, a video takes longer than that to sink in for an awards committee to care about it. And even though I don't like it, what's with the massive snub of Look What You Made Me Do? Love it or hate it, it was a huge #1, it's nearing 1 billion YouTube views in just 10 months, it's the fastest YouTube video to ever reach 100 million views and it has over 7.5 million likes. It's unheard of that MTV would have ever snubbed such a hit in the past. This is some grade A BS. Something must have happened behind the scenes with the Taylor/MTV relationship because that is some serious shade.

And, controversial as it is to say...looking at a lot of these nominations, I feel like I'm looking at the list of BET nominees, especially in Video of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Push Act. The "diversity" quotas put on shows like this now are so transparent and are hardly indicative of the actual population demographics of America. I miss the days when making good music was all anyone cared about when nominating. And this isn't an anti-black thing. I'd say the exact same thing if Video of the Year featured 6 white artists, some of which weren't even any good. Stop voting for political reasons, basically. I want to see actual diversity of nominees, not 75% black and 2 token whites half the time. I think the idea of diversity has changed so much to now mean "largely dominated by one race that isn't white."

I’m just disgusted, I’m a Beyoncé stan bigger than anyone but why the hell Is flopshit nominated.

Ariana deserves it, and I’m rooting for her cause 2018 should truly be her year.

Camilla earned hers too, cause Havana was great.

Im actually appalled at the treatment of Taylor. I’m grossed out.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

The video was so cringe and dragged too long. :air:

90% of all these are awful, awful songs that are getting all these nominations. :rip:

Although Paramore had the best video of 2017 with Hard Times, Thank God they didn't get a nomination. Don't want them to be a part of that irrelevant mess. They're too damn good for that bullshit. I hope Gaga is not a part of that either.

I voted for Whatever It Takes by Imagine Dragons and Ariana Grande NTLTC for the picks and guessed the rest except not picking any Migos, Ed Sheeran and Drake nominations:firega:

In the early 2000s, there was a huge lull in pop music. Everything was boring and basic with boring and basic fashion and boring and basic music videos. Then Gaga debuted, and everyone stepped their game up. The exact same thing is happening now. We need Gaga to save pop music again!
