FGGrayson 9,670
Mandy Moore really is returning to music, after all! The 34-year-old “Candy” singer teased a snippet of her forthcoming material on Instagram on Friday (July 13) after hinting that she was plotting a musical comeback last year. “Getting back to it. It’s time. I miss it. I’m not scared anymore. No more excuses. No more allowing someone’s else insecurities to dictate my relationship to music and singing. Boom. Also- this is just a little demo of something @themikeviola and I worked on yesterday… but still, it’s a start! 🎶,” she wrote. Been waiting for this almost a decade come thruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻
DiscoHeaven23 35,007
I could sit here and make jokes about this (and believe me, i thought of them), but after reading her post it made me realize how much she was made into a joke and how much it seems to have affected her. I'm glad she has 'This Is Us' cuz it seems to be giving her some confidence. I just hope she goes into this music thing knowing that, more than likely, she won't get much of a commercial response from it. DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Sidenote: i just realized this after doing research, but did you guys know she was only 15 when she released her lead single "Candy"? I always pictured her being 17/18/19 at the time. She wasn't even old enough to legally drive this car in this music video for it

Also ive seen all jokes about her lmao And i guess that post was about her ex-husband Ryan Adams + labels, from what i read back then, i have this idea of his rock husband wasnt letting her to have a career or something, i dont think she really cares that much about flop sinche she went alt with Coverage and indie with Wild Hope and Amanda Leigh But maybe she does had some issues with labels, back then she always was pressured to do the sexy/slutty route like Brit and Xtina and she never wanted to do it, there's an old VH1/MTV episode about that 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻
Queen Gloria 3,464
I actually loved her album Amanda Leigh. That album came out in 2009 and made me aware of what a real artist she is. She's come a long way from her Britney-esque dance pop. I stan an underrated queen. Amanda Leigh was a Pre-Joannian expedition.

Fun fact: Mike Viola produced almost all the Amanda Leigh alberm, and the snippet she posted is from a demo she was working yesterda with him 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻

What are the jokes about, someone educate me. 1. Britney clon | She was the 4th pop girl of the 90s, when Britney came it was followed by Xtina, Jessica Simpson and later Mandy Moore joined, they were called the Princess of Pop and Mandy was the last one to be somewhat relevant, cuz back then other label and girls tried like Hoku and Willa Ford etc... 2. She's irrelevant/Flop | She really never reached the level of succes Brit and X had and also never had a peak era like Jess did with In this Skin/Newlyweeds, she was almost always the underdog, and even when she wasn't that big, she managed to make a name on films, landed some shows on MTV, she even was a VJ back in the day Sometimes is kinda annoyin cuz 90s pop all sounded the same, and her debut album So Real in 99 and I wannna be with you (which is a re-released of debut ala TF, TFM where 90% of the tracklist is the same) were always compared to Britney's debut/albums, since her 3rd album by '00 critics always said how she was making music different from Brit and peers but until '03 when she went the indie/folk rute everyone knows how she has been sooooo different from Britney and X, except for the Army whom love to call her Britney clon for forever Spoiler Mandy Moore (2001) AllMusic gave the album a very positive review, saying, "Mandy Moore manages to pack more hooks, melody, beats, clever production flourishes, and fun into its 13 tracks than nearly all of its peers – remarkably, it's a stronger album, through and through, than either of Britney's first two albums or Christina's record..immaculately crafted, precisely polished, & exactly what a teen pop album should be."[17] Entertainment Weekly gave the album a B−, saying that Moore "tries out new sounds -- Eastern rhythms, jangly percussives -- that help separate her from the pack. Best of all, she spares us 'Look at Me!' vocal gyrations in favor of a breathy Natalie Imbruglia vibe. [...] [A]s teen pop goes, it could be a lot worse."[18] Coverage (2003) Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic remarked, "With this record, she leaves dance-pop behind and heads toward mature pop ... positioning herself as a pop/rock singer by covering classic singer/songwriters ... [W]hile Coverage isn't always successful, it is always admirable and likeable, and certainly puts Moore on the right path for an interesting, successful career." Wild Hope (2006) Jane Magazine said that "Moore has turned into a sophisticated songwriter whose new sound fits cozily alongside that of Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple and Sarah McLachlan rather than all the pop tarts she used to be compared to." Billboard stated that "Wild Hope is the gratifying sound of a singer finally finding her comfort zone. Gone is the sugary pop of Moore's early career, replaced instead by thoughtful musings on love and life...an album full of subtle, but undeniable hooks."[3] Amanda Leigh (2009) Entertainment Weekly gave the album a B+, stating that it was "much more fun" than Wild Hope and praised the songs "Merrimack River", "Pocket Philosopher", and "Song About Home."[13] The album topped the website's Must List the week it was released.[14] Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic wrote the album is a "clean, classy collection of AAA pop."[15] IGN wrote, "With Amanda Leigh, Moore has succeeded in crafting a personal record that is entertaining, even compelling at times, but isn't weighed down by heavy themes, misguided irony, or complex arrangements."[16] The Dallas Morning News noted that "Amanda Leigh turns more compelling with each listen...How great that she left the Britney Spears factory behind."[17] 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻

Chewed them up and spat them out while they were still in high school. It's as if the industry was run by pedophiles... I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
