While I do agree that women are scrutinised to a larger degree, I'll be honest in saying I remember the backlash Eddie Redmayne faced for playing a Trans Woman...

All you need to do is google "Eddie Redmayne trans" to find the articles (Although, a lot of the sites popping up for me are Australian sites since I'm in Australia):

https://www.indiewire.com/2015/12/regressive-reductive-and-harmful-a-trans-womans-take-on-tom-hoopers-embarrassing-danish-girl-213499/

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/sep/02/redmayne-rufflalo-hollywood-trans-movies-danish-girl-roles-movie

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-19/danish-girl-director-tom-hooper-calls-for-transgender-equality/7073640

I also remember the criticism of Jared Leto's role as a trans woman... I'm actually kinda surprised most people here don't...

The difference, in my opinion, is that (as two out of three articles you posted themselves explicitly mention) the general response was positive and some criticism came after the movie was released, mainly by the LGBT+ community itself.

Here we have a general response that is negative, in a way that seems linked to Johansson herself as a person (as it's being linked to her career as a whole and not to, for example, the director's decision to cast her in this role). To me that's a different story, especially when the criticism comes in such a shallow, unintellectual form

But thanks for providing more context!

Of course we can’t name one trans actor since they are not even allowed to audition !!!

If you want to see talented trans actress, watch Pose, Sense8, Orange is the new black...

First of all, Japanese people were okey with white people in the movie GITS. Now let the minority group of trans speak and say what they think. White people ALWAYS have to defend something they dont know jack **** about and eventually feeling offended for someone else. No one asked you to and you got it wrong everytime.

The trans community has spoken and they are strongly against it.

I am not aware of any trans actor being rejected for cis roles solely because of being trans and not because there are better actors. Could you point to an example?

Jamie Clayton tweeted about this problem, that trans actors don't have the same opportunities cis actors have. Apparently they won't even let her in the room to audition. This is what needs to change, but until it does, it seems really unfair that the few roles they can get are often given to cis actors as well  Casting agencies, directors and producers need to change.

The issue is that she is a woman. Playing a man.
It's like Chris Pratt playing Angelina Jolie
Doesn't make sense

Definitely not :lmao:

In the post after I state that I meant pre-op/hormones in that post. If you disagree with that then please explain why :laughga:

You didn't even reply to my original point, deflecting as per.

Anyway, you keep bringing up fallacies like, assuming that trans actors are even allowed to audition for the role. Your whole basis makes it seem like trans actors have the same opportunities as cis actors when it comes to auditioning - which they don't.

Minority roles shouldn't be given to actors who are not minorities themselves - period. Because it takes possibly the only chance minorities have in hollywood away, because trans actors are NOT being hired anywhere else.

In an ideal world, yes, everyone could play anyone, but that ISN'T HOW THE WORLD WORKS. You can't give roles that depict highly marginalized people to - actors who are white, cis, or straight. Because the people who are marginalized ARE NOT BEING HIRED FOR OTHER ROLES.

lmao this is highly ignorant, it's like assuming trans people don't get roles because trans people can't act. I can assure you there are probably trans actors MORE talented than Scarlett Johansson.

But that does not show that she was rejected because of her trans status. If it is truly discriminatory she would have a case against the producers which she can bring to the government, but the only thing she did was a tweet. I am sure there are many actresses out there trans or cis would also be prevented from stepping foot into the room to audition.

This is almost the most transphobic thing I've ever read. You're saying trans actors are so bad at acting that the only role they are good at playing is being themselves, and that is in itself not really "acting"... :saladga:

Why should a director cast a not-so-famous trans actor instead of a popular female actress?
