90s MJ > 80s MJ (Controversial opinion I guess)

In the 1990s MJ became a damaged man, and his music reflects his anger at the media, his own black community, the white community and even his family.

To me his 80s albums are so pure. Perfect records with no filler, no negativity. There is a reason why Thriller is the best selling album of all time - and likely to remain so forever. It is timeless, universal, sensual and romantic.

I still love his 90s albums, but they reflect the bitterness and desperation (OJ Simpson trial, Rodney King riots, gangsta rap, media calling him “Wacko Jacko” instead of the King of Pop etc) of the times.
