I think its necessary as an ally to do research so you get a good understanding of the issue. While it is important to listen to and to amplify the voices of those being marginalized, asking said people/groups to explain their struggles and oppressions ultimately places a burden on the very people you're trying to be an ally to - no matter how good the intention behind it is. I understand your argumentation but I don't think it's completely fair. If I want to be understood I should do my part and help people understand and maybe I even have to educate them. Of course we want people to do their own research but if they're seriously reaching out for our own opinion I don't think there's a reason not to help them. Especially if you're an activist. Your goal is to make people understand your point of view or what makes your life more difficult than the lives of others but if you're just demanding to be understood without responding to others' questions (and instead attacking them) you won't be making progress. Instead you're keeping on with the us/them attitude and negativity. Of course it would be nice if everybody could educate themselves and didn't put the burden on the ones who are in a more difficult/minority position but that's just not how society works. Miel 15,009
HOT TAKE: As a QPOC, a lot of my friends (who are also POC) really blindly disliked Gaga because they saw her as a representation of a very white and ignorant queer (specifically, gay white male) community. And while I think that community flocks towards her and is magnetized towards her, I firmly believe that the issues that she stands for go far beyond that. I mean, there's a reason that, at least in the early 2010's, that her fanbase was much more than what people perceive it now- mostly kids, of varying demographic backgrounds, as opposed to white gays. As other people here have mentioned, a lot of QPOC look to other artists as idols solely because of their ethnic background, which is totally valid. However, I think people tend to forget the massive amount of effort, and thus influence, that Gaga had in the mainstream pop zeitgeist not too long ago, or even now. After explaining the socio-political work that Gaga does in and out of her art, that usually garners some semblance of respect from my friends. We usually joke around that she's the token white girl that we'd invite to the cookouts, because of all that she has done. I'm not saying Gaga is perfect- she still is a rich white woman. But, she has so much empathy that extends beyond her being a rich white woman, which is way more than can be said about other rich white women. 3 points in and ready for more

Moebius 8,965
Remember when Gaga tweeted about how she could work towards bettering herself for the black community and black twitter shamed her for being a "white woman using her privilege" for a legit ****ing cause? YeaH. The Most Popular Girls in School megarate is cancelled!

Inferno 2,880
I feel as though people make this argument because Gaga is white. But at the end of the day if you go to a Gaga concert vs. like...a Kesha concert, you see A LOT more diversity. I think Gaga has been branded a white gay only thing, but in actuality I dont think its true. As far as poc not stanning her that you know of, I know a lot of people that used to stan her but dont anymore in general. I dont think its color specific. Although I wouldnt doubt if some people who consider themselves woke purposely dropped her over the years because tumblr told them she was problematic to which theyre not doing it because they actually dont like her theyre doing it because they think they have to to be deemed credible as a woke person.
