Happy for her.

How TF did Remy win last year? Literally the only thing that made her relevant was the Nicki feud

I admit she has some good music, but I don't think she's a good rapper and I don't like her voice. Definitely I prefer Nicki's or Remy Ma style.

Kinda shows you how dominating Nicki was from her debut til Side to Side :poot: also I wonder how she feels since the award she was always given consecutively with I’m assuming no competition, is now in the hands of others :oprah:

It seemed obvious, it's been Cardi's year, she really has been killing it. Congrats though because she was up against some established acts and some real talent :applause:

"no competition" is a bit unfair. Her debut year she was up against Lil Kim and since she has been up against Azealia Banks, Trina, Eve, Iggy Azalea, Missy Elliot, Remy Ma (obv Nicki lost to her in 2017 but not 2016). With many on the list she has beat them multiple times.

Lil Kim was well regarded as the Queen when Nicki won in 2010, Trina is a respected name, Eve is well known, she beat Iggy despite her hits, Missy Elliot is highly respected, Remy Ma is also established

I'd say 2011 and 2012 there was basically no competition, but in fairness every year she has won she has obviously been pretty dominant. Nicki was quiet in 2017 (+ frankly I think BET was eager to reward another female) and Cardi has blown up this year...

I doubt she is that stressed about it really. She is in that period of her career where she doesn't need to be scoring hit after hit, she has her established fan base, other artists are coming up and are hot right now but Nicki's been through that phase of her career already and is moving into another category.

Personally even if Lil Kim was her competition during her debut I don’t think Nicki had anything to worry about it since she was the new “it” girl, she never had to worry about Azealia since she never broke out into the mainstream and Azealia doesn’t really associate with other popular rappers, the only time I think there would be bump in her winning streak would be in 2014 when Iggy’s relevance was high but people also considered her to be “cancelled”

I actually think Azealia was a relatively strong competitor in 2013. She had 212 which was still a pretty big hit globally, she has part of the Glastonbury festival. She had an EP that was US R&B/Hip-Hop and US Top Rap Albums (Billboard). That means a lot, I mean Remy basically won it in her year for her feature on All The Way Up.

Obviously Iggy was the biggest competition for her, but I mean that was a sign of her dominance, because she has been up against some relevant names. It seems a little unfair to be like "Wow, now that Nicki isn't totally steamrolling everyone with hit after hit she loses?" because it's like... Yeah she didn't steamroll this year but that doesn't call into question her previous record if that makes sense?

Only black women can be awarded? Qveen Herby is a really good rapper, but she wasn't even nominated.
