I know Canadian officials were also upset that he'd cherry pick numbers to suit his claims For example the US has an over-all trade surplus with Canada but he ignored service trade and only included manufactured goods or raw materials and energy so that he'd get the numbers he wanted to say Canada is ripping off US and that NAFTA is bad Like u literally can't trust anything that guys says There is one thing I can understand his frustration with my Country and that's agriculture (particularly dairy and meats) and pharmaceuticals which we have more restrictions on than the US. From an economic and trade point of view I have to give Trump that but at the same time I dunno about compromising our safety standards just to make Trump happy on a few details Canada btw also isn't allowed to sell more than a certain percentage of our energy outside North America under the NAFTA deal. And we export a lot. That's stuff in there numbers as well that count towards the trade balance against the US that wouldn't be there if the Americans hadn't demanded it for energy security I concur..not all of the trade agreements are the same. Also , some of the policies were intentionally more beneficial to entice an agreement at all. Plus the US leadership wanted to help allies strengthen their economies.. now it's time to reexamine the conditions ... China especially..and the EU.. Canada as always be a good trade neighbor, so exempting them makes sense to me... like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. On one hand, EU has stricts regulations because the parliament actually care about what we eat, what chemicals we're exposed too, etc. On the other hand, the US government is under pressure because your lobbies doesn't want to lose money in investing in less dangerous chemicals. Why would EU buy goods that don't follow European rules ? That's the reason why there is a imbalance when it comes to goods and that's completely logical. EU buy more services than the US tho. That's why a rework is needed, Mexico and China have even fewer chem or environmentally protection rules than the us Trump lumping all trade under one banner and saying tarrif increase is needed isn't very astute or researched like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still.
