Why can’t it just be feminism? I’m not white but I’m able to relate to Gaga and songs like Scheiße, etc. White feminism is feminism that isn’t intersectional or inclusive to women of color or other femmes. It’s a lack of engagement to POC women and a lack of self-examination as an oppressor. White women and white gay men can often think they’re “off the hook” so to speak because of their minority status, when in reality they still uphold white supremacy and don’t often acknowledge the ways in which they benefit from certain social dynamics. Its really complicated tho, and it’s certainly not a black/white issue (pun not intended).

BTWGaga addressed several risqué topics which got her banned and caused protests in many countries. Self-love, LGBT rights, Inmigration. Just tell me another popstar that caused as much trouble as she did. But let's not pretend that Black Twitter wouldn't trash her if she ever mentioned racism explicitly in her lyrics. It'S nOt HeR FiGHt! WhAT doES LaDY GaGA kNOw aBOUt RacISM? ShE shOUlD JuST gO BacK to SiNg HeR sh*TTy music? Hey you’re totally right, she’s done a lot of good! And she probably deserves more credit than the public gives her, maybe in time that will happen. Theres also not a formal guide for action against racism, patriarchy, classism, etc. Its all super complicated. And I disagree with you about black twitter- while it’s definitely a slippery slope, there are tons of ways she can engage other oppressed populations outside of her own experience. I feel that one of the most important things as a privileged person is to create a platform for others who wouldn’t otherwise be able to as much... theres no perfect answer. Lucas 28,502
She's woke enough. During Born This Way promoting acceptance, ARTPOP encouraging creativity and kindness, Joanne about mental illness and politics. A fun record like The Fame or The Fame Monster focusing on music would feel good

I agree However, what it really upsets me it's when minorities try to disminish or silence the voice of our allies. I mean if a white person is using it's "privilege" to help the cause why would I shut them up? Example: That time Macklemore released Same Love (which I think it's a beautiful song) but some members of the LGBT community said he had no right to release that song. Like seriously? underneath the pine
Runway 27,876
She is always been woke except because she was a woman and doing it in pop music never got the same universal praise as This is America

At least I have never felt that way as a POC woman myself, but I can’t speak for everyone of course.

Battle 4 Ur Life 6,739
no it doesn’t. cause she doesn’t. I mean it’s great and admirable and all but she is already a great artist whether or not she wants to make a political statement with her music. and she already does it eloquently as herself. as a person and as a public figure AND as an influencer which she is very much. so I don’t think it needs to. “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
Hyperballad 4,310
it doesn’t have to be fake wokeness wrapped up in a pop melody, thats just dumb but she should make an album expressing her thoughts, ideas, topics, etc... ex: ‘The Velvet Rope’ by Janet Jackson the album dealt with so many topics and issues such as self harm, domestic violence, racism, homophobia, AIDS, depression etc it’s still a ‘pop’ album but incorporates genres like electronica, funk, rnb, soul and its called her best album by fans, regarded as a classic and still managed to sell over 10m ww sidenote: why do people just assume that singing about taboo subjects or about politics cant be fun. Born this Way is literally charged with that yet we still shake our ass to Scheiße and Born this Way about everyday

Tbh I found Same Love to be incredibly annoying, but that’s just my own personal experience. Lolol The whole “I thought I was gay” part was hella annoying... and he was a straight cis man making money off a story he didn’t own... even though one could argue he did a lot of good bringing the issue of equal marriage to light! its just important that allies think carefully about the ways in which they try to create platforms and voice their opinions. Remember when gaga had that twitter poll that got a lot of backlash because while she was well-intended, the way she voiced the poll missed the mark because it gave room for Trump supporters to be validated... when in reality there’s no reason to have voted for him outside of racism or sexism or xenophobia.
