Especially when one of them even had this same role

You mean Beyonce in Dreamgirls? She wasn’t terrible in it but was overshadowed by ingenue Jennifer Hudson.

I meant Beyonce was attached to ASIB before Gaga.

Oh okay. Well Dreamgirls was also a musical film about the discovery of a superstar and the trappings of Fame.

Yeah she thought that was gonna be her big role but it was stolen by Jennifer Hudson. Now she had this role and passed on it while Gaga may end up getting that Oscar nomination.

Realistically Bey wouldn't have been able to pull it off and she's got the Lion King anyway to look forward to, but it's gotta suck to give away role and watch someone  excel in it.

B was soooo underwhelming in that movie, and that fact that J. HUD completely slayed every single scene didn't help her case. She won that oscar based on how good and vulnerable she was every time she opened her mouth to sing. that's why i'm so excited that ASIB is a musical, the fact that Gaga is an amazing singer is going to help her deliver, and convince the critics that she CAN act

I can't WAIT for awards season

Bey wasn’t bad at all. But i agree there was no authentic vulnerability in her performance. Jennifer Hudson wasn’t a brilliant actor either but drew on her vulnerability and had some amazing musical performances that made people really feel for her. That I Ain’t Telling You performance won her the acting Oscar.

Bey would've been a horrible choice for ASIB, I'm happy they didn't cast her, she's just tooooo conventionally pretty for the role. and i can't IMAGINE her doing what Gaga did with the movie. When I picture her being hesitant to go on stage with Bradley and that whole scene just before 'Shallow' it just doesn't work. B wouldn't have been able to do that scene justice. Gaga is a naturally spontaneous performer and Bey is super rehearsed and is a crazy perfectionist. Gaga brought out parts of herself to play Ally (the whole she's got the voice but not the looks part etc.), B never faced that in the industry, so I just can't picture her bringing that kind of vulnerability that Gaga showcased no matter how hard I try

Bey wasn't bad in the sense that she's not a Madonna but def not a Cher either. she's just there, she didn't convince me AT ALL. and that movie was soooo oscar-baity that if a legit actress was cast instead of Bey, it would've been an easy nomination or even a win.

I agree I think Bey would have been a horrible choice. I think if she gets the role it becomes exactly the type of flop everyone predicted this would be. The headlines "Razzie is Born" would have definitively been used. Bey is great at a lot of things but acting is not one of them.

And this isn't directed at you, but I keep hearing people say their fave is "too pretty" for the role; they chose Gaga because she's "ugly". NO. The role doesn't call for someone ugly. They just had to be shy. Judy Garland is not ugly, Jennifer Lopez and Whitney Houston were attached to the role prior to Bey and they are gorgeous. And anyone can be ugly with makeup. Look at Mariah in Precious. Being "too pretty" is NOT a reason why certain people wouldn't be able to do this role.

I know it isn't directed at me but i just want to clarify. i meant 'conventionally pretty' like mainstream pretty. the kind of shallow pretty that Hollywood is filled with. Gaga is an odd beauty, she's got beautiful strong features that you don't always see in the movies. lets be real her for a sec, Pretty girls like Bey almost always get cast in movies over someone who's more talented but not mainstream pretty just cuz they're the kind of pretty that the mainstream accepts. you don't really find someone who looks like Gaga everyday as the lead in a mainstream movie but there are a million less talented girls who look like Beyonce as leading ladies, u get what i mean?

I get what you mean and I agree LG has a unique look to her.

I just don't think Bey or anyone is too pretty for this role. With the right makeup they could have made her look ugly like Mariah in Precious. They could also choose to go a different route and make her look too "ghetto". Her bad acting and accent is what would have did her in if she got this role, not her look IMO

I think a Hip-Hop ASIB could be really fun to watch but with the right casting. Someone with the voice, talent and ‘look’. Someone like Lauryn Hill or Janet Jackson in her heyday perhaps.
