I remember Hollywood Reporter predicting ASIB during release week with around 28-30M $ at Box Office.

Tbh I think they are precautiously/safely betting at a lower range similar like with Crazy Rich Asians. 3 weeks prior its releases they were predicting it to do around 18-20M $ but it ended up doing way more with about 35M $.

I have the feeling ASIB will have a similar fate and I can see it doing high 30M $ or even more than 40M $ if we are lucky. The many early screenings leading to very good critics and good word of mouth advertising will help ASIB a lot I guess.

That soundtrack hasnt leave the top 5 on itunes UK  since it's debut (38 weeks ago:air:)  so it's not surprised.

hope ASIB can achieve longevity like that :legend:

Even half of that would be great :ohwell:

Review from Washington Post (3.5/4)

“As Ally becomes more successful, she stars to resemble a parody of a pop tartlet: one part Britney:lolly:, one part Katy:bon: and no part real. ”

Bradley is gonna campaign so hard for this film. His first directing gig and a clear shot at the Best Actor award and i’ll be jetsetting around the world to every screening too. It’s a good thing he’s charming and charismatic enough that he’ll do the heavy lifting to make way for Gaga’s Best Actress campaign too.

A Star Is Born is not a commercial album though, there's no lead single or prior performances to promote the album. Soundtracks don't open with explosive numbers, the sales increase gradually as the movie grow over time. The Greatest Showman peaked a few weeks after its release.

Yeah that’s why i did the comparison with Cheek To Cheek because it was kinda the same (even less commercial than ASIB since it’s jazz).

Also ASIB is with no doubt a soundtrack album and not an usual album, but we also have to remember that, in addition to it, it’s a Lady Gaga album (plus Bradley Cooper, which would be curious to see, for the GP). I doubt that Black Panther soundtrack would have had the same success and sales if it was “Various Artists” instead of Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.

The Greatest Showman goes on strong but it seems to me like a soundtrack that was thrown there and managed to happen (not in a bad way), rather than Black Panther or ASIB which appear to be more calculated and studied.

A Star Is Born - Best Picture, Best Actress (Lady Gaga), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper)

Teaming with lead actress Lady Gaga and a powerful industry legacy (this marks the fourth adaptation of the age-old Hollywood romance about a budding ingénue’s passionate bond with an experienced performer) could prove to be a winning combination for first-time director Bradley Cooper. With several acting nominations to his credit, Cooper makes the jump behind the camera with a score of Oscar-verified talent in tow: Cooper and Gaga are prior nominees, as are cinematographer Matthew Libatique and sound designer Steve Morrow — meaning the film is primed to rack up points with the Academy’s craft branches, too. A Star Is Bornstands to flex real muscle, however, with the all-important precursor guilds like SAG and the DGA, both made up of entertainers who love recognizing stories about their industry, produced within their industry (Birdman, Chicago, and The Artist, anyone?). That sounds like the framework for an awards season success story written in the stars to us. —Joey Nolfi
