We're used to disappointment and having our hearts broken, so I think it's a defense mechanism. We'd rather be pleasantly surprised than crushed.

THAT SAID, remember when a lot of us thought Joanne was DEFINITELY losing the #1 spot to Michael Buble? And not only did we get #1, but we surpassed several rounds of initial predictions (of like 140K, 170K, etc.) and ended up at 200K+. So you are right, we underestimate her power, and I think we will end up surprised. We've also never had studio movie-level promotion for an album before.
