This was highlighted in 5 foot 2 where she was scared the ''fans'' wouldn't like the sound of Joanne and what the consequences would be. If we're thinking about the same part, it actually made me really sad. I specifically remember her mentioning that she was gonna fight for us to love it, because it is lovable. She was aware of the sound change, but it was still something she was passionate about and wanted to get that across.
mister max 18,480
is this the first time you witness the time inbetween two eras? It's always like that, people are just giving their thoughts and opinions and discuss about these things because, in reality, there isn't really that much more to discuss. Gaga knew what she was getting into. The reason for that is she created this. She was the one who was FASCINATED with pop culture. She knew what it did to MJ and Britney. She still wanted it tho. So most of her fanbase are actually stans. And those stans, like her, LOVE POP CULTURE. Meaning the hits. The controversy. The impact. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to you or anyone, that the stans want a pop album full of hits. Welcome to the FAME monster. however I don’t consider myself a stan. I’m not demanding anything. I don't think she knew the extent and the costs that it would take to create this "fascination" with pop culture. We've always known that Gaga's been inspired by people like Bowie, Michael Jackson, and Elton, but being crazy and provocative doesn't mean that she was "asking for this attention" or anything like that. She has expressed multiple times that she was young and naive and that in reality, she didn't know what she was getting herself into. There are plenty of artists out there who are provocative and eccentric, yet aren't major superstars like Gaga (i.e. Bjork). Plus, it's the fans that perpetuate this behavior. Sure, in the beginning, people might not have gotten that Gaga was a versatile artist—only seen as someone who puts on weird outfits and sings pop songs—but in 2018, if you demand that she go back to "Old Gaga," then you're delusional. Well then by that logic, she should be making more songs like "The Cure," perhaps a whole album like that; however, fans have also expressed that they wouldn't like an album like that either. It's situations like these where Gaga is in a lose-lose situation. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔲𝔰𝔦𝔠'𝔰 𝔤𝔬𝔫𝔫𝔞 𝔟𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔪𝔢 𝔟𝔞𝔠𝔨 𝔣𝔯𝔬𝔪 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥

I agree. Especially since she was only 22 when she debuted. Still very young. But I just This is expected from a pop star I guess. And yes, fans who want the “old” Gaga are delusional. I’m actually nice.

River 119,522
I think people shouldn't take this stan culture so seriously, it's just music, it's not that important in life, unless if you work in it as a hobby/job.. idk, I just see it as not healthy... sometimes I really see how it's doing an impact on some users mood and their mental health.. so in general, just chill, everyone, it's just music, it's just Gaga.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

It's when she's sitting on a couch in a sweater asking herself whether the people would like it. But it basically has the same message as the part you mentioned. Just like when we saw her recording the PI video where she asked the people around her whether they'd think people would miss the old dressed up Gaga.
