Like if someone wants to try same-sex sex once or just kissing someone of the same sex then what is really wrong with that?

That girls are allowed to show that openly while boys aren't :interestinga:. I can't picture Shawn, Bieber, Harry, Kendric, Charlie singing about the joys of kissng other boys. Not even Ricky Martin :saladga:

Rita really managed to get Cardi B, the hottest artist in the US right now, on her new single after the 1 2 3 punch that was Your Song, Anywhere and For You in Europe, and wasted it on this song when it could have been something really great (and minus the other two girls)

You don't have to be a lesbian to write a lesbian anthem. Gloria Gaynor wasn't a gay man, but I Will Survive is arguably the defining gay anthem.

The fact that our culture is at a place where heterosexuals feel comfortable queering up their public persona in order to seem interesting doesn't sound too bad to me.

And really, who doesn't love a gimmick?

THIS. I think it's detrimental to both men and women and perpetuates the old notion of gender stereotypes. I know many female artists think what they are doing are 'empowering' women, but while doing so they are still using traditional tropes and ideas stemmed from the male gaze and double standards. I mean if it really empowers them then props to them, and that's something nobody should take away from them, but people have to at least be aware of this and how music labels are exploiting such ideas while hiding behind the facade of 'feminism'. It's almost like their way of covertly selling male ideals of women in the so called progressive 21st century.

You have a point. But on the other hand, I still think it's not really fair because straight women can easily get away with singing about experimenting and kissing girls, but actual queer women will always be put down for singing about such things simply because they will forever be openly gay. Many straight males only support 'lesbian action' if they are actually not really lesbians and are only doing it for their pleasure. That's not even mentioning about the gay male side of things, which considerably have it worse. It affects both men and women because it perpetuates old gender stereotypes by playing the 'lesbians are hot, gays are not' card, which comes from the male gaze of what being queer is supposed to be. I do know for a fact that this notion still widely exists, and if we are getting more progressive as a society, perhaps we should stop encouraging this concept.

Beth Ditto calls them “Boner Dykes,” girls who pretend to be lesbians to give straight guys boners. I understand how it can seem unfair, that they get to adopt queerness when it suits them and drop it when it doesn’t.

But I’m not going to begrudge a heterosexual for experimenting with their sexuality or acknowledging the fluidity of sexuality.

I think people are too precious with their labels and identities.

Eh, trashy, contrived, and pandering af. They gave a very wrong message about the community. It is just similar to that stupid song, I Kissed A Girl. Fxck it and fxck them honestly!

This is my lesbian anthem,  even though they're not. The lyrics are deep and meaningful.

More than it being a gimmick, it's straight up exploitative.

There's a difference between experimentation (which is welcome and healthy) and making a song about "Omg lol boyz are soooo stupid let's just make out for the night ;)" It still flaunts heteronormativity and presents girl-girl hookups as a temporary break from men.

I call it exploitative because while it doesn't go to the same lengths as I Kissed a Girl to make it seem "naughty" or taboo, it's pretty clear it's trying to ride this wave of sexual fluidity but fumbles with the theme for ignoring the actual implications and nuances of it.

It's like the soccer mom who gets compliments on how delicious her desserts are but neglects to mention they were store-bought. Seeking all the glory but not putting any real effort into understanding how you even make a god damn pie.

Cheap gimmick that has been done over and over again. Can’t wait for a group of straight men teasing “I like to kiss boys” teeheee.

Harry, someone's who is openly LGBTQIA+, says otherwise.

"The boys and the girls are in, I mess around with him and I'm okay with it."

It's not begrudging (faulting? criticizing?) to ask people to do better, especially when seemingly innocent attempts can actually be a net negative or loss. It's good that heterosexual's may feel more welcome experimenting/exploring sexuality, but its bad to do so at the expense of queer people and their perception.

I'm going to say that its okay to give pats on the back in this case, but there's no reason that pat on the back can't also be followed by constructive criticism, no? I'm interested in what Rita + co have to say if they respond to this criticism, which is more than warranted.

Watch it never be a single or a hit.

Fuffy

I like the song, I'm LGBT and I'm not offended by it.

I disagree with Rita that this is a 'bisexual anthem' but it's an anthem for curious/experimental people, and that's not a bad thing at all.

P.S

Spoiler

Can we all appreciate how amazing Charli is at making hooks?
