Lesbian Anthem or just a Gimmick?

Do you think they are being serious when they sing about how they want to 'kiss girls'? The fact that there're FOUR girls kinda makes it feel more gimmicky to me than let's say Sexxx Dreams. Like at least one of them is not really in on it, right? They are basically selling the old idea of what straight men think girl on girl action is about, which I'm getting tired of tbh. I really thought we were way beyond that.

Not saying bisexuality does not matter, or that experimentation is in any way bad, but I just feel like it's very easy to get away with saying 'oh I kiss girls but I still like boys', and the music producers are definitely well aware of that. I mean it's not like it says anything profound or personal about bisexuality.

If you think about it, it's so rooted within the male gaze, but yet it's so easy to mask it and package it as a 'female anthem'. The fact that straight men would never release such a song in a million years probably because they don't think people find gays 'attractive' but find girls kissing girls 'cute'... What do y'all think?

This.

I hate the double standard

I think the song is gimmicky, it makes the subject of bisexuality sound taboo with the whole 'just for one night' kind of vibe

Yeah I think it's inside the I Kissed A Girl group of songs.. it's not expressing bisexuality, it's expressing a wet straight dreams kind of biphobia and homophobia.. even if those girls are maybe bisexual or lesbian, this kind of song had to remain in the early 2000..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Well Rita Ora is bisexual

But the other three aren't, so idk...is it a gimmick?

Do you have to label yourself bisexual to say you're a girl who might occasionally like girls?

Do the other three even occasionally like girls?

If you're not labeling yourself, are you still considered part of the LGBT community?

So many gray areas.

So i'm just gonna say, hey, it's a song about human admiration, let's embrace it! At least it's not a song called "Gross, Lesbians"

Well it's up to their conscience whether they truly like girls when the say it. But I still think that the music labels and producers do know what they are trying to sell to us.

Cheap gimmick that has been done over and over again. Can’t wait for a group of straight men teasing “I like to kiss boys” teeheee.

Idk.. but to me it just sounds like it's not that deep.. Like if someone wants to try same-sex sex once or just kissing someone of the same sex then what is really wrong with that?

it does feel exploitative,

but then again it's pop music, not rocket science

It's not wrong, but it is gimmicky. I also do know that it perpetuates to a small amount of people the idea that 'lesbians' are all about being hot to guys, which in itself is already a very common notion. I mean it's not the worst thing in the world, but if we wanna be progressive, I think it's something we ought not to add onto...

Her Wikipedia page doesn't even say so. This is the first time I heard of this.
