As a Liberal, I do support a strong border and unfortunately we have to do what we have to do to decrease undocumented immigration and if this will make people think twice before crossing the border undocumented, we have to do it. We either have a nation or we don't and laws have to be enforced which includes a strong border.

I understand that it's illegal and shouldn't be done. But they should not be separated from their families, at least hand the children to US citizen family members and allow the other non citizens to be sent back lawfully and quickly.

I understand that it's illegal and shouldn't be done. But they should not be separated from their families, at least hand the children to US citizen family members and allow the other non citizens to be sent back lawfully and quickly.

If illegals know they can come here without any problems, the illegal immigration will increase even further. It's psychology, it's instinct. It's like giving dogs too much candy's. Once they know it will affect their lives they won't come anymore. It's the hard world, they should respect the law.

And nobody decides whether I can't  be involved in other country's problems or not

Some parents would gladly and dutifully be arrested or separated from their children if it meant securing them a brighter, more safe future - not that that's necessarily happening here, but just to segue into my thought...

The argument for the acceptance of "illegal" immigrants or their descendents (or both) has never been about the law, it's always been about morals and compassion and understanding. Law broken = severe punishment is such a black and white way of looking at the world. I'm much  more interested in looking at the "why" and looking for reasons that people commit crimes, and trying to address those fundamentally, as opposed to blanket punishment. That is a small term solution to a bigger problem. 

Deporting people, putting people in prison, designating them as second class citizens, dehumanizing them with the label "illegals", etc. It's wrong, morally. And its ultimately ineffective, as time has shown us, and will continue to show us in the future.

I agree that it's more about the morality, but I understand the benefit of a strong,secure border.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the practical purpose for the existence of national borders between sovereign nations... However, I don't think its enough to settle for this as a "meantime" solution when we know its not the right or best solution for a few reasons...

 The most prominent reason I can think of is that if we accept this solution, it could be the only solution practically. Conservatives as they exist in this country have never appeared concerned with the individuals affected by this national issue. I can't think of a single reason why they should want to find a "better" solution to border crossings and illegal immigration when being hard on "immigrants" (read; people of color, women, children, minorities, etc.) is actively beneficial for upholding the white, male status quo  It keeps them in office, and keeps power dynamics askew, which extends power in perpetuity to their descendants at the expense of the other. Conservatives generally do not want a healthy solution that acknowledges the morality of the issue and reconciles it with the legality and practical need for a border. I say we actually look at ways to solve this issue; polls framed in certain ways have stated that the American public overwhelmingly wants to find a way to reform immigration laws that is both practical and moral, but Conservatives sat on that data for nearly a decade and pretended it wasn't true because it didn't fit their agenda

Just provide a true path to citizenship and be done with it. Don't kidnap kids, threaten families, imprison people, or any of that. Bastards.
