People drag Gaga for the dumbest reasons...

shame

So I was browsing stan Twitter (which was a mistake in itself :madge:) and I ALWAYS see people dragging Gaga by attributing her boost in MR and album sales to the SuperBowl Halftime Show and saying things like the Joanne era would be nothing without that performance... :triggered:

But I am confusion because

A) imagining the Joanne era without the SB effect makes no sense because it doesn't negate the fact that the Superbowl was still PART of the Joanne era. And the fact that she got to do it in the first place is an achievement for the era itself

B) Isn't that what performances are for? To promote the artist's work? :laughga:

C) And Gaga did just THAT. She smartly used the platform to consolidate her status as a strong performer :queenga: The fact that there was an unprecedented post-performance sales boost in the history of Halftime Shows can attest to that. It just shows that Gaga delivered an outstanding performance and really captured her audience's attention and their acclaim. :diane:

D) I also think the performance showed that the quality of Gaga's music is not at fault for sales underperformance but rather the lack of exposure of it. When Gaga was given the opportunity to promote, it had MASSIVE results. So people arguing that Joanne's later success is only bc of the SB is only proving the point that Gaga lacks proper promotion, not actual artistic quality. There are artists who are given the same SB platform as Gaga but they didn't benefit the same SB effect as Gaga did, so :trollga:

Yeah, so moral of the story is Twitter stans need a reality check and that

Spoiler

This is also a year late but I think about this all the time when ppl try to drag Gaga by using her SB HS as the evidence... like thnx u just argued against ur point... LMs aren't the only delusional ones I guess :ladyhaha:

maybe there's a promotion problem somewhere in there? cause when people heard it they liked it, so doesn't that mean there isn't enough exposure

MR was doing good regardless but the SB made it only go higher on the charts but sales went up drastically.

Million Reasons sold 140.000 subsquent copies in the week after the SB alone. If not for the SB we would beg for the platinum certification not the double platinum certification for MR.

The superbowl would have happened in any case, Joanne or not. Let's not act like she got the Superbowl because of Joanne or the Superbowl was a part of the Era :awkney: and Million Reasons before the Superbowl was a flop (peaking at #52 on the BBHOT100)

Look I've worked at major stores whose main business is CDs. During my time only TWO albums received such a large push to the point where everyone wanted copies. 25 and Joanne. No other pop albums came close.

I mean they said that they picked her immediately after they heard Joanne, so its not like it had nothing to do with it. And Million Reasons going from a peak of #52 to #4 just proves the OP's point that it didn't flop bc people didn't like it, it just didn't have the exposure it needed to be successful

the superbowl was part of the era :awkney: why are you picking and choosing what counts as part of the era? it happened during the joanne era, it's part of the joanne era :awkney:
