It's normal for mainstream music to switch styles.

Pop will probably take hip hop spot in a couple of years because it's a cycle.

When we finally have demolished patriarchy!

But really, I think hip hop's popularity is here to stay, but I'm not so sure it will stay relevant. But I'm the wrong poofster to ask. I havn't been thrilled by hip hop since Get Your Freak On". I found it interesting when the hip hop community embrased Ecstasy/Molly/Methylenedioxymethamphetamine and shifted from guns, gangsters and misogyny to slightly more mind bending spaced-out sounds and entactogenic sci-fi themes.

Before that it was "Rapper's Delight" from 1979. (You see!?! I know my history!)

besides the musical aspects you really have to consider the social aspects of hip-hop and how it acts as a catalyst for protest and change. so i think hip-hop may take different forms but it will not go for a long time. i personally think that is good. imo most pop has nothing too important to say atm that hip-hop cannot do

what do you mean by hiphop though? any example of songs you're pointing at?

Like Drake's songs, Lil Yachti, Lil Uzi Vert, Stefflon, all of their output is unbearable

oh I personally love Drake, really he's so talented and I understand some people dont like him but you cant deny his rapping skills. Then I think that Migos, Lil uzi Vert and those kind of artists are gonna fade out a lil bit cause even myself, big rap listener, am getting tired of the the flatness of the songs nowadays, especially Migos, it's getting really boring and repetitive

yes good arguing, name one artist to disprove a whole catalogue of popular sub genres and artists of hip-hop. to see the potential of hip-hop you might have to start considering less-established, even non-signed artists, shaking up old formulas of the music industry. look at the support female rap is gaining these days. look at how there is an actual queer hip-hop scene doing boundary pushing work rn that was unthinkable 10 years ago. there will always be trash artists in every popular genre, pop has its fare share of dumb music

Soundcloud hiphop needs to disappear... All these trashcans like XXX and lil xan and 6nine9 or whatever (who is literally a pedophile) but hip hop has been popular for a long time, it always has been popular, it's just that with charts'emphasis on streaming, a lot of rap artists (or "artists") get really good positions on the charts so thats why it seems like a lot more hiphop than usually is popular rn. But if you look at billboard  hot 100 no.1s through the years you'll see that there have been a ton of hip hop no.1s

That said, hopefully the more hollow, "popular" form of hip hop can wane off- same as hollow pop waned off, also.

If you mean Migos, Post Malone, Lil Uzi or whatever they're called yes they must vanish into thin air. I hate them for ruining a great genre of music.

Well I was talking about POPULAR music and when will it stop being so prevalent on the charts and Drake is the most popular rapper at the moment. Although Cardi's presence is problematic as well.
