You forgot about Janet Jackson. Most of her albums have interludes.

Lana has one interlude on Honeymoon, Rihanna has 3 on Anti (very melodically pleasant despite their length) so yes I like them.

But Anti only has one interlude? Higher is a proper song, just a very short one. Goodnight Gotham is...who knows what that is.

You're forgetting the pop originator of interludes, Ms. Janet Jackson.

Control, Rhythm Nation, janet., The Velvet Rope, All For You, Damita Jo...

And yes, I love them when done right. Especially since it can make for a more cohesive album/story.

Thank you, mama! As far as I know, Janet was the first mainstream artist to do interludes. It's definitely her signature.

Not when artists like Tinashe use them cause they just think they sound cool :rip:

But Interludes that are part of a story or concept album are good. Mood setting interludes meant to transition parts of albums sonically  (so like from the upbeat to the slower section or vice versa) are a mixed bag for me.

Interludes that are emotional or conceptual transitions that are just interesting sound worlds for about a minute or so are also nice.

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

It narrows down to what you want to believe it's an interlude or not.

Yeah, I Said It 2:31

Higher 2:00

Goodnight Gotham 1:28

'Cease Fire' is lyrically one of her best, I suggest you to listen at least that one.

Honestly, interludes on albums are hit or miss for me. They can be done really well, like for example, Tinashe's Indigo Child interlude on Aquarius. I wish it was a full song tbh

Sometimes I think they're just half finished songs that they liked so they just chuck them in. If they have a purpose and don't interrupt the flow of the album, sure.

Interludes, for me, are really hit or miss...and most of the time it's a miss...

I will say some of the BEST interludes from the top of my head are:

Christina Aguilera in Back To Basics, Mariah Carey in Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel "Betcha Gon' Know", and Kelly Clarkson's "I Need a Minute" Intro.

They are made for if you listen to a album from first to last song, but no done does that anymore cause they press shuffle

I don't mind them. Sometimes they just don't sound right though. Like on Fergie's Double Dutchess interludes..

But i think the manifesto of mother monster intro would have sounded cool at the start of Born This Way..

excuse me no

I love the concept of using intros and interludes. It works very well on concept albums, and rap albums, because it flows with the story. Unfortunately these days people skip songs, put them on shuffle, they don't listen to the albums the way they were intended to be, so these interludes lose their meaning.

These intros set the mood and meaning of the albums :
