It is gold only because of Bodak Yellow. The value of a single in SPS divided by the 10 is the number of SPS units it gives to the album

So Bodak is 5x plat -> 5M : 10 -> 500k album copies -> gold album.

I think a better word than ‘unfair’ is ‘meaningless’. Everyone has a chance to get a 6x platinum single even if the pure sales are <1M. It’s just that some artists (Drake, Rihanna, etc.) have teams that push for streams and others (Gaga, P!nk?) don’t push as much. Saying Cardi’s album is gold is pretty meaningless because you don’t need a well rounded album with lots of great tracks, you just need one mega smash song. This is not a true reflection of the popularity of an album, rather, the success of one or a few songs. It’s sad, but that’s what the reality is now and we should not give much credence to certifications and billboard charts. Better measures of commercial success are pure album sales, pure track sales, track streams, tour box scores/merch sales, etc., all measured independently. Though having a charts section on Wikipedia that just has 1s is pretty satisfying

Pfff tbh I don't think there is a good way to count success nowadays I used to think that Certifications were but as you've said they're meaningless now
