freebit 6,240
Ugh. Nothing excites me about this show anymore. 3 hours ago, Meredith Grey said: They need to bring in more new people to give every season more of a different feel. I’ve watched every single show Ryan has made and his downfall is always that he likes to please the fans too much. Stick to Evan and Sarah as the staples and bring in new talent around them. But I’m still excited. I watch everything he does and (with the exception of AHS:Hotel) stay entertained by it at the very least. I actually think they should give Evan and Sarah a rest. The show having the same leads over and over again contribute to it feeling stale. Both are good actors, but it would be ok for them to go to supporting after Cult. Though, I think the show has a conundrum because the fans of the show love the cast and want their favorites in every season in big roles, but Ryan and the rest of the writers tend to write same-y characters every season, and it just becomes more pronounced when these similar characters are played by.... the same people. In that regard, it stops feeling like an anthology show, and stops feeling fresh. The show has continued the Jessica Lange problem, where instead of the Evil Blonde Diva season after season, it has become Badass Final Girl and Handsome Lovable Psycho season after season. And I SO agree that the fan service is his downfall. He cares too much about what people think on the internet. It was clear in a recent interview when he said that it felt humiliating when the press reported that ACS's ratings went down 30% and people were saying The Assassination of Gianni Versace wasn't as good as O.J.'s season. With AHS it's like he reads the subreddit and twitter, and just writes to what those people like instead of going with his genuine creative instincts. Mad Men is not perfect, and Matthew Wiener seems personally awful, but I do respect that he never wrote what the audience wanted, because if he did, Don would have cleaned his act up very quickly, Joan and Peggy would have been running Sterling Cooper by the second season, and Betty would have ceased to exist on the show. Despite what the audience always says, good people winning and bad people losing is not terribly interesting.

I think Ryan has stopped writing for the characters in some aspects and more writes roles specifically for Evan, Sarah and sometimes Kathy too. He should just make the season without any cast members in mind and then give Evan and Sarah characters from there. They’re both so versatile that they could pull off almost anything. If he gave Evan and Sarah a rest, he’d just bring another recreated character to the forefront. Like Adina Porter who played the “in over her head, underestimated but powerful woman who isn’t afraid to kill to get what she wants” two seasons in a row. Dutch 91,313
I love the cast, but Jessica Lange really made this show. Gaga did a great job in Hotel, so I wasn't missing her that much in season 5. But for real, they really should bring her back.
Laceface 2,964
Is he doing another season of Feud? Is J. Lange going to be in that again too?

Bradley 59,023
Billy Eichner was awesome in Cult, I loved his contribution to AHS. Cheyenne Jackson's roles however seem a little dull compared to his co-stars'. Leslie Grossman can be amazing if her role this time is completely different from her role in Cult. dlioncourt91 765
The show's gone downhill. The only saving grace is he's got Joan Collins on this season.

Yeah, I think he should definitely write without the actors in mind, and yes, Sarah and Evan are great, but there are other actors out there just as versatile tbh. Evan Peters 10,738
the whole point of the show was to use the same main actors....and have them do different roles....like.......idk what's hard to understand about that. evan peters has been getting paid dust on that show and the minute he gets the lead ya'll want him to leave? the issue with ahs is that ryan loves to give people the same roles. evan had the issue with jimmy being like kit, and sarah has the issue with literally every ****ing character she plays. ya'll need to let go of jessica and stop with the whole 'it was better when she was there!!' it wasn't considering freakshow and cover exist. jessica's first and last good character was sister jude and that's the tea. im not even a diehard fan of ahs anymore but still can't believe the **** you guys complain about. don't watch the show if you don't like it. based on its numbers each season, i really don't think fx cares emma roberts is an abuser
Quartz 12,534
A heightened Cult? **** Cult was already terrifying in its own right! Jesus I can't even get the image of being nailed shut to a coffin out of my mind. Oh no, this means more horror and less drama. I don't think I can watch this with my cousins 0.o Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊
