No new genres for pop music?

I feel like either a new style of music is about to emerge (within 1 or 2 years), or mainstream pop music is just stagnating. Since the rise of trap music and chill/tropical EDM in 2015, like it or not, there hasn't been much of a shift in style since then. And that's only for sub-genres. For almost the past 10 to 15 years we have kinda been using genres that are already established and merely modifying their styles (maybe with minor exceptions like EDM which one could say was already kinda a thing long before), whereas in decades like the 50s we have the birth of rock, the creation of synthpop in the 70s, the rise of hip hop throughout the 80s etc. Would we ever experience that kind of revolutionary change in popular music in the near future? Genres usually stay underground first before becoming popular in the mainstream, and therefore if there's a new genre on the way we could look to the underground scene rn.

The rise of Trap especially is what seriously damaged the reputation of pop music. Why should anybody with new ideas transition into pop music when your job isn't even respected anymore? I have nearly given up on pop music honestly. When a mediocre Drake can rule the charts for more than 10 weeks we can start packing our bags and move somewhere else until something new rises to the top.

I don't think so.

Even though there are predominant trends, such as Tropical & Trap influences in Pop music, I feel like most part of artists are now allowed to have their own genre, while in 2011-12-13 Pop music was only about EDM. Nothing wrong with it, great songs came out from EDM, but there was a period when everything had to be Electro-Dance-Trance sounding and DJ related.

Plus, I think lots of new artists are changing the way we see Pop music, which is good imo.

It would be enough for one big Cheap Thrills type of hit to shift the industry that way for a couple of years tbh so honestly it's not impossible.

Well variations of the EDM umbrella have been popular in Europe for sure and it’s constantly changing but in the US it’s been stuck between Raggaeton and Hip-Hop/R&B for a while now.

It seems like Electro-Pop is SLOWLY back on a rise but for the past 3 years new popular genres are unpredictable, for example I started hearing a lot of Disco-Dance music being played in stores, clubs and malls over March but now it’s changed again because streaming makes everything unpredictable

Birth of rock in the 50s? Yeah more like when White people stole it from Black peoples.
