Both. The thieves steal the mopeds and use them for crime like robbery (jewellery shops, people holding phones in the street or on cafe tables), stabbings and acid attacks. London has huge amounts of traffic everywhere, the mopeds squeeze through the gaps and even police can't keep up chase.

Ah, I see. Wouldn't known mopeds is effective vehice to do such thing.

Oh ya, the acid attack is horrific :( It's one of the most sadistic thing people can do, disfigurement.

Crime is rising in cities. Not surprised at all.

What else is rising?

Temprature. Hotter weather makes people more aggravated.

And also...., :hor:

Point us where are some safe haven in the city if you can? Perhaps can be useful for future students who going there for Uni or new citizens and tourists alike :sis:

First of all, was you being a Mod just an April Fools joke?! I feel betrayed!

OT:

The areas you want to avoid primarily are South Side (anything below Bridgeport) and Uptown. Most hipsters will try and argue that Uptown isn’t bad (its not the worst but it’s not good) yet I can attest to having been robbed in Uptown.

Anything far West is bad too.

Stick to the Loop, Lincoln Park and Lakeview.

Eeek I have heard bad stories recently, like more than usual :S Even something as close to home as down the road in Dagenham (brap brap @AM98GJ), there was a 12 year old girl assaulted after school and then another guy beaten up by a group of guys just off a main road and these were both in broad daylight :/

Not sure what's happening or what's causing the spike really :noparty:

Long time no see! But yea, I kinda feel like certain areas in London are definitely going downhill, sad but, the city in general is still a very nice place to live

Yes. And some district are more notorious than the others.

Chicago is one of the city in USA where the crime rate have increased significantly. It is one of the notorious cities for it in the country. Though it is decline a little last year. For references, there were 496 murder case in 2015, and increased to 771 murder case in 2016, and decrease to 650 murder case in 2017, not so significant decrease I know  :poot:

And there are other rates for different crimes too like rape, mugging, etc. It is so infamous, even Trump tweeted about it and we know what kind of person he is.

Also, most Univ. in the city got their own private security at all times. And the largest ones owned by Univ.Of Chicago, they got the second largest force after Vatican City. Now, this is either make you feel safe or concerned cos they need this much of private security.

As for the districts, Hyde Park and The Loop are two most recommended area for students to stay in but it is still not 100% safe, just need to stay alert and use common sense at all times.

Thank you SO much this is extremely helpful and important to me. Stay safe!

woop hey there keep scrolling

A spike in violent crime in London saw more murders committed in the city in February and March than there were in New York, figures show. So far in 2018, 46 people in London have been fatally stabbed, shot or injured compared to 50 in the US city. But, while New York's rate month-on-month has decreased since January, London's is on the rise. Ex-Met Police Ch Supt Leroy Logan says it is proof that "London's violent traits have become a virus".

Statistics from the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Metropolitan Police, reported in the Sunday Times and obtained by the BBC, highlight narrowing murder rates between the two cities which have similar population sizes. The Met said it was "concerned at the increase in murders in London". "One murder is one too many, and we are working hard with our partners to understand the increase and what we can all do to prevent these tragedies from happening in the first place," a spokesman said.

I knew the boy that was murdered last night he was a really nice kid and it's devastating, it's also disappointed to see the entire thread arguing about Chicago and trading photos
