Remember Vanessa Carlton, piano songstress of "A Thousand Miles" and "White Houses" fame? She's gone indie over the past decade, releasing a few albums under various labels, and now over the next six months she's covering six famous songs in her new style. This week she released the first: a toned-down cover of Robyn's EDM hit, "Call Your Girlfriend." The accompanying video is a retro compilation of archival footage featuring prim and proper couples, juxtaposed against the 2010 song of betrayal. Watch below:

the song is okay. i prefer the original. but i do like the video. it has a sad effect for me bc i'm looking at it like these couples are about to break up

It's lacking the emotion of desperation that the original version had, but I do like the kind of aesthetic they were going for. Too bad it wasn't as effective as it should've been.

Call Ur Girlfriend is a powerhouse song that screams ROBYN to me so it is interesting hearing another take on it.  I always called this song the most rude sweet song ever because the act is rather rude (he isn't just breaking up, he's saying how it's so different when they kiss lol) but with Robyn's vocals...it's deceptively sweet. All that is missing in this interpretation BUT it isn't terrible for what it's worth.  Ive been waiting for a guy to cover this and not change the words.  Olly from Years&Years...are you listening, babe?   😉

On second listen.....ill give the girl props cuz she has good taste and she kept that beat for the most part. Not bad like I said earlier.  Much like Dancing On MY Own, Robyn's act is just a hard one to follow.
