The really repetitive instrumental, which relies entirely on an (admittedly catchy) six-note motif played repeatedly for over four minutes, gets really tiring for me (did the song need to last that long?)

My thought exactly !

I can't recognize Bruce from one picture to another, that's crazy

The Louvre

Surprised Born in the USA came this far tbh, there's better material on the album.

It's said the map of the world is on you. The moon gravitates around you. The seasons escape you.

I'll give Born in the USA credit. It was able to crack the Top 3 without a single 11. :lolly:

 #2: I’m on Fire

1482095721740.jpg

Overall Score: 9.07

High Score: 11 @kyanewest @Punktious @Jeroen Bloeming @That J @TheShameMonster @GypsyBabe @blackcoffee

Low Score: 3 @calmar

Comments:

@Oriane – “It feels a bit underwhelming, I was expecting an explosion.”

@kyanewest – “OMG I KNOW THIS SONG, heard it before but forgot it was him!!!!!!!!!!! I can't it's so good, SO GOOD”

@calmar – “The airy sound returns with I'm on Fire, which, again, smacks of really disturbing themes that repulse me more than make me like Bruce or the song itself. At least it's short - but almost disturbingly so, too, like there was just a vague idea that got put onto the album. I wouldn't have shared that you have wet dreams to minors, but that's just to me.”

@memomemome – “I'm on fire. you know what happened next... The build up tho.”

@That J – “I struggled with my 11 on this album. When I listened to bits and pieces of this album as a refresher course, I found myself repeating this classic 3 times in a row. I think it's the restraint I appreciate...this could have been a rocker and worked but the restraint and that musical accompaniment is flawless. You believe every word.”

@PunkTheFunk – “Totally digging the mysterious, "night" vibe this song has. Feels like I'm driving down an empty city street with the wind in my hair.”

#1: Dancing in the Dark

bruce071008_560.jpg

Overall Score: 9.44

High Score: 11 @The Louvre @memomemome @datlastfam @warholagaga @PunkTheFunk

Low Score: 6.5 @Oriane

Comments:

@The Louvre– “one of my favorite songs ever, attached to lots of good memories with my friends, also my roommate absolutely loathing it.”

@Oriane – “A classic but not as good as other songs on the album.”

@kyanewest – “‘I'm never but tired, I'm just tired and bored with myself’ me too Bruce, me too”

@calmar – “Well, a song I can truly connect with - "You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart" hit me quite hard. Sounds like a classic as soon as it starts. It's not higher just because I'm learning that Bruce's songs are too... 'airy' (I'm 90% sure it's one instrument that gives me that impression), his voice is not to my taste, and I think I connect with it mostly due to my present emotions, not because of who I am as a person. But I think a Gaga-style remix (no, not Dance in the Dark) would be amazing. And of course the saxophone leading us out.”

@memomemome – “‘You can't Start the fire without a spark’ The more I listening to BITU, the more when the song came out from speaker, you got the pleasing feel. I can't describe it why. I may shazam it on the first listen. Good thing, it put on the later tracklist. So you have to wait more, but it worth it.”

@That J – “This was a big hit and rightfully so. It's a crowd fave!”

@PunkTheFunk – “One of the few Bruce songs I know, and it also happens to be my absolute favorite. Just pure 80s magic. ‘You can't start a fire without a spark. This gun's for hire. Even if we're just dancing in the dark.’ Whew.”
