But gay and straight men look the same though 7 minutes ago, Supersonic said: Cuz there are tonnes of unemployed out LGBT actors who specifically do not get jobs because they are out/openly LGBT. It's like Hollywood saying "We won't employ you, but we'll exploit your struggle for money". So, what's your stand if actors are hired regardless of sexuality, would you still think it's appropriate to cast a non-LGBT actor in a LGBT role? I mean Moonlight kinda of went there by portraying the experience of black gay men however it was still done by straight people and i don't think it was THAT amazing of a movie and highlighted more about homophobia and internalised homophobia than showing a gay experience I loved Moonlight (legit cried at the ending), but I have to disagree with your last statement because I feel like the gay experience for a lot of men is about dealing with homophobia and tackling their own internalised homophobia before they can even begin an actual relationship, and this movie displayed that pretty well. 5 minutes ago, gagzus said: i never said that, i simply said with LGBT people portrayed by ACTUAL LGBT people and directed by LGBT directors, of course there'd be straight people in it... they make up the majority of the population of the planet more like how BP was 99% all-black cast with a black director Completely off topic and I have no idea why but my brain registered BP as Blue Planet and I was so confused but then I was like oh right Black Panther Which remind me, Michael B Jordan uhhhhhh my ovaries Current First Lady of the United States. I’m sorry. I just woke up and was crazy for a few minutes idk. Sorry Tears in the rain

No shade but the reality we live in is unjust and has to change, so playing "what if" seems like nothing but a useless theoretic exercise to me. Hollywood has created a problem that needs to be adressed. What if Hollywood gave LGBT actors a fair chance? What if white people never snatched black people from the West African coast? What if Gaga never broke her hip? What if poop didn't stink? Like... I don't think that really matters.

Sorry it's all good just wanted to make sure people knew i'm not necessarily whining so much as puzzled genuinely since the western world often proclaims to be so liberal and forward thinking, but we kinda can't even do minorities be they race, sexual or gender specific correctly in film and tv. And hey, it could also be that it's about the black experience of being a gay man too and explores homophobia in the black community and maybe that doesn't resonate with me either. Yeah my post isn't to incite arguments or to be whiny i'd like to clarify for anyone reading, it's more to do with the fact that there's a lot of LGBT actors, writers, directors, producers, musicians, hell even LGBT on-set Runners who're invisible to hollywood and the public, and it just puzzles me 'tis all. Plus, I find a lot of mainstream LGBT culture is marketed and digestible towards straight, white, western and cis culture. More diversity and soul is needed and for undiscovered talent and creatives to get the platform they deserve.
That J 12,166
There's a good bit of true LGBT movies out there ....the majority suck tho sadly. You have to see 20 to find 3 truly good ones. But it's coming around and will only get better. The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw

And they're played by two straight actors It's a good start but we need more mainstream films that encompass the diversity of the LGBT community. You're not just funny, you're also wise?! DiscoStyx 3,355
I've heard it's a very good trans movie. The main character is played by a trans actress. highly recommended for cis people but it is very violent and sad so if you're trans you may not want to be reminded of all this EDIT: it won the Oscar for best foreign movie! cause of death: gaga singing along perfect illusion on BBC Radio
