Are there examples of this cure aside from Gaga and Katy? Just curious.

(Even though ARTPOP was still incredible, so I say she's rather unscathed :staymad:)

Beyonce with her 4th, Madonna with Erotica, idk anymore off the top of my head lol

The Child

One half will either be a hit or a miss

And the other will be generic and commercial

Britney kind of slayed with her 4th album, I mean she got Toxic which got her first and only Grammy up to date. So this curse must be recent.

Obviously not the same level, but Applause is one of Gaga's biggest hits too

I like her but I also think shes a little overrated. Like shes fun and cute and everything but people also lowkey act like her albums are genius. Dangerous Woman had some bops but it wasn't like monumental. Personally I think shes yet to release anything truly iconic.

Another generic album

giphy.gif

i’m not sure...

Ariana’s music is sort of generic but it’s still pop perfection. I wouldn’t call her basic.

For example, Katy, a veteran, sometimes releases questionable songs like Birthday or This is how we do but Ariana delivered an excellent bop with reggae hints when reggae hasn’t been popular in decades. Into you and Love me harder SLAY. Her Collaborations with Cashmere Cat are special. Baby I and Everyday are trap but still sound so different and cute.

She has something so special for a new comer that even acts with longer careers like Demi, Selena and specially Miley only wish they could have.

Gaga is #1 for me and she will forever will be because of my emotional connection, her slayage and fierceness but if I had to pick another fave it would be Ari.

Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Christina, and the list goes on.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Get rid of Max Martin, all of the worst tracks on DW were by him and the ones by Tommy Brown & Victoria were amazing. (Though "Into You" is a masterpiece, ngl)

huh? the max martin songs were great and they honestly didn't sound like traditional Max Martin songs

He did:

Dangerous Woman

Into You (as you said)

Side to Side

Greedy

Everyday

Bad Decisions

Sometimes

Touch It

Basically all the bops of the album.

Well, I didn't say her music was basic. But I feel her work could be better and more interesting if she dared to explore new territories with different producers besides Max Martin (In this case it's partly like that, as she's working with Pharrell), 'cause I know she's a talented vocalist and her voice deserves better music. But to know she's still depending on MM's work for half the album is somehow disappointing for me.

But this is just my opinion.

Well....I agree with you in terms of her being generally basic. She has elements that can take her farther, but ultimately what she releases is middling fluff. Like yes...shes cute and fun...but I feel like people give her a little more credit than she deserves. Dangerous Woman was lauded as pop perfection and while I enjoy it I also have to sit back and wonder what makes it special? I really couldn't tell you. Her brand is just sleeker than some of her peers imo, its not that her music is necessarily above theirs in terms of quality level or "experimentation" whatever that even means in pop music anymore.

I'm sorry but Miley Cyrus even with her imperfections has a far more footed voice and point of view than her peers imo. Love her or hate her I think shes undoubtedly the most interesting in terms of where shes willing to go with her career. Younger Now was a bore but none of her peers would have the balls to be as unpolished and off the cuff as Miley has been. Not that im putting her above Ariana in terms of like...who makes "better" pop music. Idk. I just think Miley has more of a point of view, for better or for worse. Arianas just kind of like everything you want and expect in an instagram era pop world. Shes not actually doing anything intriguing shes just excelling at being a pop star in the current landscape she inhabits. if that makes sense. which is fine i just dont think it makes her interesting.
