Why is it always over there??? I just don't get it wow It's always here because someone could go out tomorrow morning and get a semi-automatic (which can be made into an assault weapon with a bump) gun with less hassle than trying to buy sudafed at a pharmacy. ⚯͛

The other 50% of guns are owned by 19% of the population. 78% of the country does not own a gun. The majority is being held hostage by a minority! It’s not just about quantity though. One gun can do a lot of damage in the wrong hands. We gotta do something for god’s sake...I wish there was an easy fix.

The minority are the most vocal and they have the money and influence behind them. That's the root of the problem and what needs to be tackled first.
DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Can we change this title to 17 deaths. That's what's being reported This CNN article updated one hour ago https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/14/us/florida-high-school-shooting/index.html

Borislshere 53,665
Watching those videos literally made my heart sink. No one deserves to go through something like this. Change needs to happen. It’s easy to sit and send prayers but those prayers mean little to nothing if we’re not willing to make a step in the right direction. Those in the US, contact your elected officials. Speak out about gun control. Show them that incidents like this need to be stopped https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials
Laceface 2,964
Very sad but not surprised. It's literally the norm now while the world shakes its head at America's lack of gun control.
AlexanderMagno 10,746
Tell me again why Americans still support guns. Really, I can't even conceive that in a "developed" country.

JustinTrudeau 2,419
From the article: "Some students, fearing their lives would soon be over, texted goodbyes to loved ones; others used their phones to share startling footage of the carnage on social media." This shouldn't be a thought that comes to high school students. They shouldn't expect to die.  I fell down the stairs once as an actor.

Really, I can't even conceive that in a "developed" country. Well, a lot of them don't, but those that do point to the 2nd amendment of our bill of rights, made in 1791. It states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Coming from a time where normal people had to have weapons because the country was at war with Great Britain, whose troops were coming across the ocean to fight over here anyhow. It was also before the country developed a real government-run military and needed to rely to varying extents on local militias for each skirmish (as there were technically 13 colonies here, and not one, so there was little coordination until an effort began in the 1770s.)
Cuchulainn 3,040
Really don’t understand people’s obsession with guns. There’s no need for them in our society. 2nd amendment is outdated and we shouldn’t even need to discuss gun control after each of these shootings. This is too sad  So sick of hearing about these kind of events every other month or so.
MJHolland 12,725
I know a lot of people say they get numb to stuff like this, but these stories are profoundly devastating to me This is an epidemic. Don’t cast your vote for a single person if they don’t say how they are going to tackle this problem.
