It's more of a continuation of the electronic music she was making with William Orbit.

Big Ørbit fan here. Ray of Light is the best album of Madonna imho. Music was such a letdown after that.

I actually think a lot of it has to do with white artists going back to a genre that is broadly considered white by most Americans and thus they will not be accused of cultural appropriation or any other political no-go of our times. The debate around these issues is heated nowadays and many white artists have been in the center of unwanted attention. I‘m neither judging the artists nor the imo important conversation about cultural apporpriation, but I think there‘s a connection there.

I liked Joanne but I think it‘s a fallacy if artists and labels think this genre will be inherently more ‚authentic‘. It can be intimate, yes, and I like that. But it‘s a really narrow definition of authenticity that can easily become bland, boring or in some cases fake. With JT it already feels like a cheap marketing strategy even though Joanne came out only less than two years ago. I just hope white artists feel encouraged to make more daring music in the future instead of looking for a refuge in Americana.

It’s not totally country. Americana perhaps. A little bit of folk. But essentially still pop.

No one claims Gaga invented this type of music but she has recently took the lead for American pop artist’s new interest towards Americana.

The recent election and Trump America probably has a lot to do with this sudden shift.

Idk, I think this started with Beyonce and Formation. Gaga's Grammy outfit screamed Formation Tour.

BUT, overall Joanne was a much more country influenced album. And that definitely played out more into what we see now. However, there are still many reasons why Beyonce could've started the trend too with her album being about her family and bringing in traditional visuals into her work and merging them with modern political twists.

I'd def say she has brought it back into fashion, but most of those artists have dabbled in the country scene, even kylie!

I think that’s the point they’re making. She didn’t invent any sound she’s done, she just does it before it comes right back into vogue again.

Ok but let’s be real this outfit was classic Gaga. I doubt she took any cue from Beyoncé on this one. She would have worn this any time over the past few years and has worn some variation of it. Still, with regards to Beyoncé, I’d say she doesn’t really bring in new trends. She typically hits on them right before they’re most popular or at their most popular. Gaga, by contrast, usually does it earlier so she seems less cool or relevant until others do it. I love Lemonade, don’t get me wrong, but the music there wasn’t really a newly rising trend. It was all already there and popular, she just did it incredibly well.

Fair enough. But let's not assume that anyone in the GP even knew about those Gaga outfits. I still think Beyonce started the trend for the most part.
