Okay, I'm not hating. I'm not trowing shade.

I like some of his music. And I know that by now y'all are tired of threads about the SuperBowl HT Show, but this needs to be addressed. I read all of the comments in the other threads and if someone already mentioned this feel free to lock this thread up.

My biggest issue with his performance is...PRINCE

prince-90540c68ce21f6dd.jpg

Remember him?

Funny thing he said in 1998

“That’s the most demonic thing imaginable,” Prince told Guitar World in 1998 when asked if he would ever perform alongside the hologram of a deceased music legend. “Everything is as it is, and it should be. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing… it really is demonic. And I am not a demon.”

As a Prince fan IT HURT deeply to see him used as a projection on a cloth. WHY? Why is Justin so problematic?

I never EVER thought that he'd do that sh-t. Why didn't someone tell him? Utterly disrespectful to Prince's family who spoke about it in the media before. Leave us, his fans, but his family...smh

And the FACT that he sang I Would Die 4 U? Are you f-cking kidding me? Really????? I'm so pissed I'm sorry. If you wanna do a tribute sing Purple Rain or Nothing Compares 2 U or basically any. other. song. Cringeworthy as hell

I don't think i'd be able to enjoy JT's songs from now, since he seems like not a good person. But I don't hate him. I'm sad, and disappointed, and hurt, and angry...but not hateful and throwing shade or some other petty sh-t.

But it wasn’t a hologram though. It was a projection into a sheet

i know the two are different things, but still. the point of Prince's statement was "working" with someone who's deceased which is wrong to him. If JT was meant to jam with Prince he would've.

Distasteful in my opinion.

That J

I thought the same thing about the song choice!

As a huge Prince fan myself, I didn’t mind it and thought it was a nice gesture. The musical arrangement he did of I Would Die 4 U was interesting too. It was easily the only redeemable part of the show

i think you guys are overreacting :nails:

damn straight i'm overreacting.

seeing one of my idols that shaped me up as a human being, being used as a cheap prop in a way that he would never support if he was alive, and me being mad about it is the basic definition of overreacting.

Bradley

He said in the halftime show press conference that Prince meant a lot to him, and definitely inspired him a lot, if anything Justin was paying tribute to Prince in a respectful manner, y'all shouldn't overreact too much.

It's meant to be a positive gesture.

to me it's using yet another black artist against his will in order to gain positive reviews. maybe i'm wrong here. i'm not saying my opinion is the only one acceptable. i get your point and everyone else's points. but this is how i see things.

Mirages

That's exactly my biggest issue with the show (not looking at poor production value, low energy performance, lame stage layout and cringey moments), Prince didn't like holograms, he didn't like "resurecting" people, he loved thing that were new original and never done before, he never wanted to be brought back like this, his family didn't want it yet JT did it, Prince never even liked or admired JT and his career. It feels wrong, it feels like Prince's wishes were just thrown away and pooped on now that he is no longer with us.

Justin's been getting pass for cultural appropriation, art thievery and usage of other artists fame for own personal gain for wait too long if you ask me.

Kim, there‘s people that are dying.

i know, right?

so why not let them stay dead and respect their opinion and memory. rather than thinking it's irrelevant and doing whatever we wanted to do anyway.

The thing is that he‘d get **** for not tributing Prince too since he‘s in his home town.
