witchcocktor 1,438
Maybe he should've researched this particular era and the things surrounding it before going in with high expectations of weirdness, kookiness and extravagance. It's annoying when artists get placed in a box, and are criticized from being in it, and when they break out of that mold and try something different, people are let down because they have come to expect them to be in that box. But I can't say this piece is 100% wrong. '' the tedious and preachy monologues '' - Agreed. But I think her fans love it, because being a stan and a fan is beyond being a fan of someone's music, but being a fan of the person. So they are there to bask in in all of the Gaga, not just her music. They aren't there to just party or just to have a good time, but to see the artists they love. I'm not that kind of a fan though, I like artists for their music, not their persona or their opinions or their lifestyle (generally). It's always a nice plus if their worldview fits with mine, but I just wanna enjoy good music live. That's it. '' totally uncool yelling of instructions as if we were toddlers who needed to be told how to act and what to feel '' - Agreed. God does it make my blood build when she screams '' PUTS YOUR HANDS UP '' or '' NOW JUMP!! '' I know she is probably freaking annoyed that people are just filming her with their cameras and not living in the moment and being part of a great experience, but I think she needs to just drop it, she can't win this battle. If the fans are feeling it, they'll jump and put their hands up and drop their phones for a hot minute. Let it come naturally, because otherwise it's just going to be uncomfortable hearing you shout out instructions and only a portion following them. And to not just demonize people with their phones, there are several ways to enjoy a concert these days. Some just want to record the experience, and while that's pretty annoying for the artist, sad thing is they'll just have to respect that and let them enjoy the concert their way. Mister Gaga 22,889
He has a point tho. Gaga has gone pretty conservative. She's not as risky as before, she kinda played safe this era. The target was the basic GP. Remember when she hated hollywood? Now she's hollywood's favorite pop star (Golden Globe, Oscars, she has a Netflix documentary, Vegas Residency). I mean, come on guys...don't let the Gaga stanning blind you.

StrawberryBlond 14,820
While it was definitely her most conservative show, it wasn't conservative in general. She didn't swear anywhere near as much as usual and her outfits weren't quite as daring but there was still plenty of provocation. Did the reviewer miss the fact that...she started her second song by telling everyone to "get on their motherf**king feet"? That she sang Scheiße, a song about women being proud to be who they are while talking about the TimesUp movement and saying she wrote it in German because she wanted it to "sound like a bunch of bulls**t"? She sang LoveGame, one of her most raunchy songs of all time, which is literally about penises and sex and even added in the explicit line: "a boy and a girl and a f**k and a game?" She sang Bloody Mary, one of her most religiously controversial songs of all time and even said: "Sorry, Joanne, but this is the good s**t"? She sang Dancin' In Circles, an overt song about masturbation, while her dancers made suggestive movements over their crotches while stating that she wanted to make this album very personal, about things that actually happened in her life and how she wanted the honour "the little prostitute, the little hooker in my heart"? That one of her dancers mimed the act of strangling her to death after Paparazzi? That before Bad Romance, a video was played on the screens of her face being covered in a dark substance that looked like blood? I mean, she may not be the wild girl she once was at the beginning but she's hardly become strait laced. Hello, she's in her 30's now, she wants to get married and have children, she's embraced a rural lifestyle with the peace and quiet. To expect her to be the same throughout her entire life is ridiculous. Women really tend to go through a maturing phase at this time that a lot of men don't seem to have until they reach their 50's. They just want to be a bit more relaxed and mellow down. Even really sexually provocative artists like Madonna, Janet Jackson and Xtina have done it. Humans are always evolving and celebrities are no exception.

lucastecala 795
I agree about JWT being conservative, but I think that's what they were aiming for. IMO the whole Joanne Era has been a palat cleanser for the GP. Gaga's was still making amends and trying to build a bridge with the GP and the casual pop music listeners that she had alienated ever since BTW and even more during ARTPOP. And to that effect I think both the album, the tour, the documentary, the aesthetic and Superbowl performance have been extremely successful. She might not be yet selling a lot because that was not her focus (I think that's what she'll aim for next era) but she is once again relatively unanimous amongst the GP. I mean her public perception is now generally positive again. People are open to Gaga again. In my opinion, once she is medically back at her feet, she's going to use that unanimity to boster some more radio friendly and upbeat music. The combination is potentially explosive. It all comes down to: people underestimate Gaga. She knows very well what it is to be conservative, or edgy, comercial, or experimental. She's done all that before. If she's not being commercial and not being controversial or edgy it's because she didn't mean it to be this time. And she has a very good reason for it. JWT was awesome, the outfits looked really high quality, the stage very modern, her vocals were on point, but something was missing from me and it's the fact that the show looked very staged, the speeches werent that heartfelt, it was very mechanical in general. In contrast, artRAVE and BTWB seemed authentic, very close to me, insinctive, personal. It's sad to say it but BBC spilled the tea : gaga is getting more and more ''average'' (dont come for me) and it's a truth.
