PoshLife 16,973
PSA: When you're all done going through her personal convos (including those that have nothing to do with the racist stuff), think long and hard about your own online presence. That stan twitter account you have? That GGD account you think isn't connected to anything identifiable? The mean messages you've left people on ask.fm or whatever? Do NOT assume it will always remain anonymous. The fact is you NEVER know what is going to be connected back to you in the future. This is particularly prescient because I know there are a lot of people on GGD who have musical or other creative pursuits and may want to get famous some day. Be careful what you post online, even when your name isn't directly attached to it. It only has to come up once to be on your "internet permanent record" for the rest of your life. Spoken from someone who knows. I know I'm coming off as melodramatic right now, but take it seriously.

Literally the majority of my peers said it. Even I used to say it all the time as a synonym for “homie.” But I was like, what, 14/15/16? I’m an adult now and I actively protest the usage of that word because I gained more insight. I grew, and I learned from my mistakes. I’ve probably even said even worse things than that. But like I said, I learned and I grew as a person. Same can happen with Camila, she’s not even of legal drinking age yet, you know? In your school. And it's common culture that African American uses n*gga. I wouldn't compare that to white people saying that, as an example. It's a completely different atmosphere and culture. The point is that just because there are some ignorant people out there saying this **** in high school doesn't mean everyone else is doing it nor does it excuse behaviors. Meruk Holland 2,245
I love the people on here acting like prejudice in private is the same thing as prejudice in public. It absolutely isn't. And I make no bones about this: Camilla was being racist. She just had the decency to not do it in public. You could say its a slippery slope, and you'd actually be right, just in the opposite direction. Let's not forget as the years go by, prejudice of all types is becoming more unacceptable to be seen. This, ideally, leads to a society wherein the new generations are less prejudiced than those before them. If you're only prejudice in private, then you are consciously trying to improve society, even if your motivation is to not be ostracized by that very society. That's not to say they should be applauded. In fact, far from it, they are still prejudiced. But to equate this person to someone who is outwardly racist/homophobic/sexist/etc. is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not saying it should condoned, just that it shouldn't be condemned in the same way. I applaud those of you who can say that if you're private messages were leaked or your private conversations are recorded, you wouldn't be in any trouble. You are the ideal future. But be aware, you are the minority. When you give anecdotal evidence, it comes off "holier-than-thou". When it all comes down to it, I am biased. My first impression of Camilla was positive, and I like some of her songs. I had nothing against her before today, so I wasn't exactly eager to jump on the #CamillaIsOverParty train. And there is this whole thing with she's given a pass because she's a woman, and we're told all the time that we shouldn't tear women down, we should only raise them up #HeyGirl. But then, that's how all this gossip sh*t works. If you don't like the person in question or you don't know them but they said something prejudiced and you are either a part of that group or care for that group, you'll be likely to join in on the witch hunt, or at least steer clear of that person. If you do like that person, or at least their product, then you're willing to overlook anything problematic they say. At this point, Gaga could say she wished that I personally had never existed (and I can't be sure she hasn't thought this), that still wouldn't affect how I feel for her in the slightest. I'd be hurt, but I'd still love her and wish her all the happiness in the world. Yes, its an extreme example, but I think it highlights what I'm trying to say. And you know what? That's okay. If you wanna join in on the drama and defend or tear down someone simply because you like or dislike them, respectively, more power to you. After all, it keeps me entertained. I'm way more annoyed that people spent the time, energy, and resources to show that Camilla is racist over way more important issues. She's a pop singer. She makes music for people to enjoy. What do I care that she and her friends use racial slurs in private conversation? If she started using racial slurs in songs, then we have an issue, because then it's public racism, which is imperative to address. If this were a pop star I didn't like, I doubt I'd be so annoyed, but I'd still find it redundant. Either you already knew or wanted it to be true just to vindicate your dislike of them. If you told me Justin Beiber called people n****a (or with the hard R) or f****ts in personal conversations, I wouldn't bat an eye. I'm even more annoyed that I was annoyed enough to write all this crap.
