I can’t believe there are ignorant people (like you) who believe that mentally ill peoole (like him) shouldn’t be helped... omg  Disturbing

I feel sorry for those 50.000 kids, not for him. And we all should do the same.

There are helplines and groups advocating treatment, although it's not that widespread. There are some therapies and not all will immediately report you for disclosing unless there is an immediate perceived threat. Also, there are safe spaces on the Internet and LOTS of knowledge on that can be used to help educate them, aka people know what is illegal and what is not. I acknowledge that there are issues surrounding pedophiles getting help though.

However, I disagree with "how do you expect those people to control their actions"? Their attraction towards children is only that - an attraction towards children. Just like we can control our sexual advances, people with this attraction CAN also control theirs (unless coupled with other disorders, but in this case I'm talkin' plain and simple pedophilia: attraction towards children). Especially in today's climate and with access to the Internet, they are aware that acting on it is illegal, and many DO control their actions and don't assault children or download child **** (which as I previously mentioned is not a victimless crime and hurts children).

For those that do act on it, they need to be held accountable for their actions. Is that sad? Maybe. But that's reality. Mark needed to be held accountable for his possession of 50,000 images of children being sexually abused.

I don't disagree HOWEVER it doesn't mean he could never have been a productive member of society after. Yet people act as though he was a worthless piece of **** who doesn't deserve anything. Idk, I just don't vibe with that mentality.

You know you can feel sorry on both sides. You can have empathy for multiple people. What does feeling sad do for anyone? Let's find a solution.

Ya'll, we can't make excuses for pedophiles. We can't. It's something you just can't pursue. He made a bad choice, and has paid his consequences. There are many people who feel dark thoughts and work very hard to never act on them. He acted on feelings that indirectly affects 50,000 children. This isn't something to be taken lightly, and isn't something we can just say "Awh, I feel bad because he has bad mental health."

I feel bad for people who suffer through it. I do not feel bad for people who dive into the lifestyle and choose to have 50,000 innocent children being abused on their computer..

No one is making excuses for pedophiles BUT there's something that we need to do to prevent this behavior in other people. But if we just say "he's a ****ing pig" people who have this attraction may never go get help because they are afraid that they are also disgusting, stupid, horrible, deserve to die.

It’s so sad that you can’t see the bigger picture here. I do not condone the actions of pedophiles. I am devastated for those 50,000 kids and the millions more that suffer sexual abuse. I also am devastated for the millions of people suffering mental illnesses (like he did) while people like you spread ignorant and false statements about them. Grow up a little, and try to learn a thing or two about the topics that you clearly don’t know much about before making ignorant statement that do nothing but spread falsehoods.

Well, I don't. I don't feel sorry for him either.
The children have already been abused. He's dead now, what are you gonna do for all these poor CHILDREN besides these commenst?
Aw, we both know the answer.

I agree with this; compassion should be given to those who deal with those feelings. 100%. Even for people who have dabbled in watching it and want help. I want people to feel they can rehabilitate and become "normal."

I just feel like, personally, I cannot give compassion to people who have COMPLETELY immersed themselves into the lifestyle. 50,000 children's lives have been ruined; he has taken the rights of so many children away, and I feel his rights are thus stripped in return. But that is my opinion.

I agree but I just feel like killing off people or committing suicide really does nothing to deal with the problem. The "good riddance" comments trigger other people with other mental disorders (including myself) and really don't do anything productive. Don't you agree?

Let's make one thing clear, no one, I mean NO ONE deserves to die. May it be a suicide, a shooting or an accident. No one deserves it.

The problem with pedophilia is that society knows that this is wrong but doesn't try hard enought to deal with it. Okay, pedophilia is illegal, there are laws and sentences for the perpertrator and society condemns such acts. But let's be real, does the state and by that I mean any state/country/society in the world try hard enough to rehabilitate them? No.

If you want to get rid of pedophilia related crime, you have to start with the root of the problem - the person itself. States should and must finance rehabilitation programmes, counseling, psychotherapy and similar, so that pedophiles get an adequate treatment and become responsible citizens, who are aware that pedophilia is bad and don't act on their urges.

Ofcourse, if someone is constantly getting in and out of jail for molesting children. He/She deserves to spend their life in jail, because there has not been any improvement.

So instead of yelling this is disgusting, horrendous. Try to help the victim, and the perpertrator so that it, like in this case, doesn't end in suicide. Justice must be served but with a fair and objective trial.

As someone who attempted suicide, I can't believe that someone actually cheers on someone's death. Everyone deserves to get help!

I would never feel comfortable letting Mark back into society. So no, I don't have an answer for that. I think a conversation is definitely needed about pedophilia, but there should be severe consequences for acting on it. Mental illness is one thing; but as soon as it affects an innocent person in a negative way, I view it differently.

Liking child **** is so much more different. These are ACTUAL babies that are being ****ed by grown-ups. If you watch that, you are supporting this content and encouraging this to be continued to be made. You cannot compare the two..

I think what people are getting upset about is where do we draw the line. I physically cannot feel sorry for someone that engages in this lifestyle because I can't get over the incredible feelings of sadness I feel for those poor children. Yes, Mark had issues, but our society is so worried about looking out for the abuser or the criminal and trying to make them better or find reasons to feel sorry for them, and we sometimes forget about the kids that never had a choice. Mark had a choice as to whether he pursued this. These babies who were abused countless times did not.

I think this is a great, concise post that literally sums everything in this thread up.

I think a lot of the arguments (for the mental health treatment of pedophiles) would be better received in a thread that isn't about someone who pled guilty to possession of child ****.

I mean - it's not like Mark wouldn't have supervision or mental health resources. We can't just have people rot away forever and have no chance. But anyway, I think we need to have conversations about pedo-behaviors RATHER than just celebrating their suicide.

I completely get where you are coming from, and respect it. Maybe I'll get to the point where I feel like you, or maybe my sorrow for these children won't let me get there. Either way though, I agree conversations need to take place.

Meredith Grey

RIP to him. He follows me on insta and has since i was 13 years old and I’ve talked to him and at the time really looked up to him. After the whole child ****ography scandal i was taken aback and very upset/angry with him (I mean it makes you feel horribly betrayed i guess i should say to find out someone you loved very much and looked up to does something so horrible) and I guess deep down I really wanted it to all be a lie or for him to at least get better from this disease. I hope his death can spark a conversation on the subject of pedophilia.
