Only 19% of Grammy Wins Were by Female Artists

In this BBC article published today, they revealed that of the total 86 awards given out, only 17 were given to women or female-led bands. This is just 19.78%.

In a night that was plastered with the White Rose and #MeToo campaign, it seems bitterly ironic that the academy isn’t willing to translate words into actions and begin supporting women in their work. It’s like they exploited female empowerment for the PR and promotional advantages, but weren’t willing to actually do anything substantial to show support.

To the Grammy’s head that said women need to “step it up”, I say why did formulated radio-fodder like Shape of You get a win over Kesha’s Praying? Admist all the scandal, you’ve at least thought a song centred around recovery from that issue would win over objectifying trash like Ed’s shallow song.  Praying is well crafted and emotive, a song that values women for their minds, not for their shape.

Seriously, 19.78%.

I’m not even bitter that Gaga lost, but this stat is tragic. GRAMMYs are trash. :madge:

I actually agree :stalkga: Female leads need to "step it up". The only female artist that truly has done it is Lorde with Melodrama (and it was incredibly snubbed, so that man totally lost there).

But besides Lorde, no female artist really has delivered an exceptional album this last year.

I'm not saying males are doing a better job, Shape of You is not Grammy worthy. In fact, I don't think any nominees this year were Grammy worthy. I'm saying females aren't releasing the best either.

But if that’s the case, and both genders put out rubbish, why were only the men rewarded for it? If both were equally bad as you suggest, you’ve thought they’d receive an equal number of awards...

Sorry for the facts

Why was Twitter saying only 3 females won... Still terrible tbh. Grammy's shouldn't matter anymore after what the president of Grammy's said (that women need to step up or something)

I'm so mad that literally none of the male artists (as far as I know) have spoken up about this mess. :saladga:

Especially because if any of the female artists speak up about this issue, they'd definitely get huge amounts of backlash and get labelled for being 'a sore loser'. :saladga:

All these male artists and not a single pair of balls. :fthis:

Fiona Apple

This is so not related to sexism :rip: It was a VERY male year in music in general.Literally 90% of the mainstream&successful albums were by male rappers.

It's EXTREMELY cringey how people feel like everything should be 50-men 50-women,50-white 50-black every time. This is not how it works. If we want racism and sexism to completely stop we have to start judging results&people based on the work instead of the gender or the color.Forcing equality in every situation is retarded
