Opulence 1,380
This is the first year I’ve actyally felt infuriated by the Grammys. Not because I’m bitter about Gaga losing, that sh*t happens and it doesn’t matter a whole lot. I’m angry because the Grammys encouraged women to wear white roses, push the ‘times up’ message, have Kesha preform a song so powerful about her sexual abuse, all for what? All for themselves. For their own appearance, they don’t actually care about their women. It’s literally like them saying “okay we’ll use you to show we’re woke and ‘2018’, but you don’t actually deserve any recognition, we’ll give our recognition to the mainstream and publicly loved male” I’m done. And yes, this is misogynistic given the fact that some male winners did the bare minimum with their music. Also, I dont recall him or anyone saying that males should step it up during 2009-2011 when women were slaying the music industry. Im PISSED. Exactly. Women did kind of deliver dull music compared to the guys. When they didn't deliver boring music they were on top. I really hate to say this. But I don't think this was misogyny. Kesha, Gaga, and P!nk delivered particularly ordinary records why Kendrick delivered records about race issues, Bruno delivered a sound and bops that absolutely slayed and nailed what he was going for, and Jay-Z delivered a truly deep and personal record that didn't feel forced. Ed...maybe not so much.

Ed...maybe not so much. The thing is Kendrick, Jay-Z and Bruno weren't competing in the same category as Kesha, Gaga and Pink so this point is irrelevant. They were competing against Lorde if we're going by critical acclaim she way surpasses Bruno, Jay and Childish, while only falling short behind Kendrick. Even then, she wasn't offered a solo spot at the show to perform while all of her male counterparts were. Was that because she kind of delivered dull music compared to the guys? Essentially, it was Kesha, Lana, Gaga, Pink, Kelly against Ed... and well... headspin, happiness, DE̤̣A̢̯͔̘T͏͙̗̟̫H̗̙͡ͅ
StrawberryBlond 14,881
Men like this always give the weakest excuses. Women have been told to "stiffen up," "smarten up," "tighten up," "wise up" and "step up" for decades. And even when we do it and still continue to do it, we're still told we're not doing enough. Women have to be twice as good as a man to even be considered half as good. It's like the quote: "Ginger Rogers had to do everything Fred Astaire did, backwards, in heels." Fred is the one who got all the praise but Ginger never got the same level even though she technically had an even harder job than him. Over-compensating the next year is going to be just as predictable. Awarding women just for being women is not what we want, we want to see good women winning the awards they deserve. I yearn for gender specific categories to be brought back so there's more chances of winning, not just because of gender separation but more chances in general. There's barely anything to win anymore if you're not nominated in the major categories. Seeing sweep after sweep from one artist in category after category made me want to puke. Where is the suspense, where is the nuance? 1 hour ago, ELEMENTALITY said: Exactly. Women did kind of deliver dull music compared to the guys. When they didn't deliver boring music they were on top. Ed...maybe not so much. I think you're misunderstanding. The point is, when women were slaying, he didn't feel the need to tell men to step up because the assumption was that men had already stepped up, they were just pipped to the post, he was awesome, just not quite awesome enough. You win some, you lose some, essentially. But he's suggesting that these women aren't awesome already, they haven't reached the level of men. That's what the problem is. I don't think I've ever heard men be told to get better if they want to win accolades (not just in music, any industry) but I have heard that countless times aimed at women. You're entitled to your own opinions but I think Kesha delivered an above-average album, Gaga delivered an awesome one and there were other women who had good albums but didn't even get nominated (agree on Pink, though, to me, her latest album was a disappointment). I just can't get into Kendrick, Bruno and Jay. I like rap and RnB, just not the kind they put out. I just don't like modern rap that much, it's too pretentious and hard to decipher these days. I don't think these albums even deserved nominations. I know, it's a shocking opinion, but it's just what I think.
