Morphine Prince 105,361
(Reuters) - U.S. copyright authorities on Saturday decided to increase over the next five years the royalty payments music streaming companies like Spotify and Apple Inc must make to songwriters and music publishers, a trade association for music publishers said. The Copyright Royalty Board of the U.S. Library of Congress issued a written decision that altered the formulas used to determine how much of their revenue streaming companies must share with songwriters and the music publishing companies they typically hire to collect licensing fees on their behalf. The National Music Publishers Association said the ruling, which has not yet been made public, will require streaming companies to give 15.1 percent of their revenue to songwriters and music publishers. The previous rate was 10.5 percent.
RAMROD 108,673
Well, this is a good thing. But maybe this can cause the free account to be eliminated by Spotify, or else they will add more ads than music for the free account. thierryrreiht 20,976
GREAT No music should be fully free freemiums are a good “trial” option but I have no respect for people who don’t pay for music they can have whenever they want. Since HMV closed, less, but I still buy CDs of music that I love WITH having an Apple Music account. and artists should earn more from what they craft. Period. Anderson123 38,059
Well that's great news, especially for new artists who are struggling to get their music out there. I usually download most of my music but buy CDs from the ones that I really love or that I think deserve it. Big artists of course don't really suffer from this because they make more money from touring. I guess Spotify will have to charge a little more for their services. ProdigyARTPOP 3,909
This is so good bc artists rarely see revenue unless they have 360 deals or established fanbases. Usually the record labels keep everything

It's easy for you to say that when you have enough money to buy all the music you want to listen to. In my country music is not the cheapest thing in the world. Everything gets more and more and more expensive. There a lot of people who struggle to even bring food to their homes. Music is not something they can spend money on. Music is an art, and usually helps people to cope with their lives and enjoy more their lives. Music is something that brings people together. The artists still make money, and it lowers piracy. If they remove the free option, they'll just be losing money to piracy. Artists make ALOT of money off of tours, isn't that enough? Doot 2
This doesn’t come as a surprise. Physical music is being faded out, so it makes sense that the streaming payments should increase.
